A book written by Harriet Stowe that showed to be cruel and brutal. sold over 300,000 copies. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Congress tried to organize the territory and repealed the Missouri compromise. -

Violence breaks out in Kansas due to border ruffians. Kansas was refered to "Bleeding Kansas". -

Charles Sumner gives a speech and Preston Brooks beats up Sumner with a cane. Injurys were so severe he had to wait two years before returning to the senate -
Dred Scott Case
Slave owned by an army doctor in Missouri. He lived in a free state with his owner for 15 years. Then the doctor died in 1846, so Scott Sued for freedom saying that he should be free because he lived on free soil -
Election of 1860
Abraham Lincoln is elected president and wants to abolish slavery. -

The South belives in states rights, seccession begins and Jefferson Davis is elected as president of The Confederate States of America -

Fort Sumter is low on supplies and Lincoln sends some. President Davis orders an attack which begins The Cival War.
