  • Sugar Act

    The sugar act was one of the first acts placed on colonists in order to raise more tax money. This act placed a tariff on molasses and sugar.
  • Stamp Act

    The stamp act was one of the first direct tariffs on British Colonist… Because many materials such as magazines, newspapers, and legal documents were used throughout the colony, many colonists were greatly angered by it
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    They were laws passed by the Parliament of Great Britian. THe purpose was to be independent of colonial rule. Also for more trade regulations.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a huge event in the colonies. British had placed standing armies inside the colonies (which really irked the colonists) angry colonists started taunting and throwing rocks and snowballs at the soldiers. In defense, the soldiers fired killing 5 colonists.
  • Tea Act

    British restricted the purchase of Tea from anywhere but imports of Britain. This was the straw that broke the camels back in America, this incident is the cause of the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    After many unfair tariffs were placed in America, the colonists decided to rebel. On December 16, 1773 a group of colonist boarded the imported ships containing tea, and dumped it all into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    In response to the Boston tea party, Parliament passed the Intolerable acts. This included a list of acts the colonists thought “intolerable” such as Boston Port Act Administration of Justice Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Quartering Act- Forced the colonists to house "quarter" british troops, and the Quebec Act.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    British went to take and destroy militart supplies. The Patriots heard about this so they moved there supplies to a different area. In the end the British ended up marching back while being heavily fired on.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    This was located in Charelstown Peninsula. The Americans won but the British drove the Americans out of Charelstown. But at the time it was considered an American defeat.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    This was a petition that tried to help aviod having a huge war with Great Britian. It talked about American loyalty and tried to prevent more problems.
  • Battle of New York

    Battle of New York
    In the battle of New York the main Generals were General Wahington for America and General Howe for British. The British won this battle. The Americans had to retreat because they were unprepared. This was a hard lose for the Patriots and Washington because they lose a big city.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    This statement said that the thirteen colonies that were at war with Great Britian are now independent. The Declaration told of King George III's wrong doings and gave them rights. It also spoke a lot of equality.
  • Battle of Trenton

    Battle of Trenton
    The Battle of Trenton took place in Trenton, New Jersey. The military leaders wer Washington and Colonel Rahl. The Americans ended this one as a victory. It was said to be both a moral and physical victory for them.
  • Battle of Bradywine Creek

    Battle of Bradywine Creek
    This took place in PA west of Philidelpia. The main Generals wer Sir William Howe and General Washington. The British won. They drove America from their position and left with the field.
  • British Capture Philidelpia

    This was led by British officers Admiral Lord Richard Howe and his brother General Sir William Howe tried take over Philadelpia. They took 16,500 troops to invade the big city. Washington heard that the British were going to Philidelpia and he took his troops to go and protect the capital. They marched back and forth because they kept hearing different things about where the British were located. The British ended up taking over Philadelpia.
  • Saratoga

    Saratoga
    Saratoga was on the Hudson River in New York State. General John Burgoyne, Major General Horatio Gates, and Benedict Arnold were Military leaders at the time. The Americans won the Battle. They forced Burgoyne and his troops out and Burgoyne withdrew his army up the river to the camp.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    The continental army was being starved and couldn't get enough food. They didn't have warm clothes and the winters were very cold. A lot of soldiers got sick at Valley Forge.
  • Charelston

    Charelston
    This was a major battle towards the end of the war. Henry Clinton sailed to get Charelston from New York City. On his way there with all his troops he hit many storms.
  • Yorktown

    The French sided with America and they defeated the British. They attacked Cornwallis and his troops and formed a semicircle around them. They won the last major battle of the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    This formally ended the American Revolution. It acknowledged the thirteen colonies to be independent. It also established boundries for America and Great Britian.
