Treaty of Paris(ending French and Indian War)
This treaty officialy ended the French and Indiand War. Great Britian, France, and Spain used this treaty to set new land borders. -
Stamp Act
The act required colonists to pay taxes on paper items. The colonists protested against it, and got it repealed. -
Townshend Acts
This act put taxes on items such as glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Tax collectors were alowed to search for smuggled goods. Also, the colonists boycotted the items and attacked houseds of officials; this caused the king to send soldiers to Boston. -
Boston Massacre
Some colonists angered British soldiers, and the soldiers fired. Three people were killed and two mored died a couple of days later. The soldiers were put on trial, but some colonists were still angry. -
Tea Act
This act enable the Bristish East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonists. The colonists were angered, and responded with the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists disguised themselves to look like Indians and dumped over 350 tea chests into the Boston Harbor. People in the streets were then shouting: "Boston harbour is a teapot tonight!" -
Intolerable Acts
The British tried to bring order back within the colonies through the Intolerable Acts, such as Boston Harbor was closed until Boston paid for the tea. These acts agered the colonists even more so. -
First Continental Congress
Representatives gathered for the first time to discuss the relationship between the colonies and Great Britian. In this meeting, they decided to go to war with Great Britian. -
Lexington and Concord
This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The battle only lasted minutes, with a victory for the colonists. -
Second Continental Congress
In this meeting, they authorized the Massachusetts militia to be the continental army. George Washington was selected to command this army. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
The colonists dug at Breed's hill, forcing the red coats to fight uphill. The British tried 3 times, but could not go up. The colonists ran out of gunpowder and had to retreat, but they proved they could take on the Brithish. -
Common Sense
Thomas Paine wrote this pamphlet to express new ideals. It changed the way that colonists viewed their king's rule. -
Declaration of Independence
This document was created to officially anounce the colonists breaking away from Great Britian. It described that people had unalienable rights, King George III had violated their rights, and that the colonist had the right to break form Britian. -
Battle of New York
This was a battle between General Washington and General Howe. The colonists were forced th\o retreat, and the British took patriots and supplies. -
Battle of Trenton
The colonists silentlu crossed the delaware river and suprised attacked the red coats. This was an important victory for the patriots. -
Battle of Saratoga
The British traveled through the woods and attacked patriots along the way. When they got there, they were surrounded. This was the turning point of the war. -
Valley Forge
During this winter there was much suffering form shortage of food and clothing. Around 2000 soldiers died from disease and malnutrition. In spite of this, the soldiers stayed and became better soldiers. -
John Paul Jones captures the Serapis
This was an amazing ship capture. As John's ship was sinking, he was asked if he would surrender; he replied, "I have not yet begun to fight!". -
Battle of Yorktown
This was the last major battle of the revolution. The Patriots won and when Prime Minister Lord North heard, he declared, "It is all over!". -
Treaty of Paris(ending Revolutionary War)
This is the treaty that ended the revolution. Great Britian would now recognize the colonies as the United States. Also, borders were set and thus, America gained independence.
