    Nuclear arms raceThe end of WWII created a nuclear arms bettween The United States and The Sovit Union. By 1949 the Sovits developed their first nuclear warhead. By 1953 both sides had developed a Hydrogen Bomb, which is mucj more destructive then the atomic bomb. Though both sides had the ability to devistate the other, no missles were ever fired. This was know as the balance of terror. The 1970s began an era of Detente, or relax in the tension by diplomatic means. This era would end in 1979

    With the defeat of Japan in WWII, Communist China gained control over much of northern China. Communist forces lead by Mao Zedong fought a civil war against Nationalists headed by Jiang Jieshi. Moas forces swept across China.

    During WWII Korea was divided into a bitter rivalry. Korea then found its self on different sides of the Cold War. After WWII korea was split in two by the 38* parallel of latitude. North Korea the became communist under Kim Il Sung, while South Korea, who was backed by the United States was non-communist country under Syngman Rhee. Much fighting would accure but bounderies would be spread and then reduced for each side

Thousands of residents of the east side fled to the west side to escape the misery of communisum. To prevent this, the intalled a concret wall around West Berlin.
