  • Volstead Act

    Volstead Act
    The Volstead Act was passed October 28th, 1919. It put together a group of 2,500 officers to monitor the entire country to enforce the 18th ammendment.
  • Palmer Raids

    Palmer Raids
    The Palmer Raids began taking place November 8th, 1919. It allowed agents to arrest people purely on grounds of suspicion and go through people's mail and homes to look for evidence without a warrant.
  • 18th Amendment

    18th Amendment
    The 18th amendment took full effect on january 29th, 1920. This made it illegal to sell alcohol.
  • Sacco and Vanzetti Trial

    Sacco and Vanzetti Trial
    The Sacco and Vanzetti trial began on June 22, 1920. Although they were found guilty and executed on august 23rd, 1927, some people did not believe they were guilty.

    The 19th amendment was ratified on August 18th, 1920. It gave women the right to vote.

    The Lenin and the Communist State/Red Scare began taking place on December 18th, 1920. Communist parties began forming in America. There was a worry of the nation that it might end up becoming communist too.

    The Teapot Dome Affair happened om April 15th of 1922. Albert Fall was bribed to lease the oil field called the "Teapot Dome" in wyoming. He would become the first cabinet offical to be put in to prison.

    The National Origins Act was passed on May 26th, 1924. It limited the amount of immigrants that were allowed to come to America.

    The Scopes Trial began on July 13th, 1925 and ended on July 21st, 1925. He was tried for reading about biology to his class thast he taught; this was illegal because education was still supposed to be religious aat the time.

    Charles Lindbergh crosses the Atlantic
    Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic and landed in Paris, France on May 21st, 1927. He was the first to make this flight alone. They called him "Lucky Lindy."
  • 1st Talking movie, "The Jazz Singer" is released.

    1st Talking movie, "The Jazz Singer" is released.
    The Jazz Singer was released october 6th, 1927. it was the first talking movie, the first line being "You ain't seen nothing yet."
  • Herbert Hoover elected president

    Herbert Hoover elected president
    Herbert Hoover was elected president on November 6th, 1928. He won in a landslide victory.
  • Stock Market Crash

    Stock Market Crash
    The stock Market crash of 1929 happened in October. It began on the 24th- a black thursday- and continued downward on a black monday and tuesday, The 28th and 29th. This began the longest economic depression in America's history.
