Berber's Inhabit Morocco
The Berbers were the indigenous people of Morocco. Their culture has shaped Morocco into what it is today. Their traditions still bear witness in the modern day architecture, dance, literature, arts, crafts, and the music of Morocco. Many Berber descendants live in Morocco today. -

Romans Arrive in Morocco
The Romans come to Morocco which causes a war against the Berbers. Though obviously resented the Romans brought some good to Morocco; they set up aqueducts and reservoirs. They also built streets, private buildings, sculptures, and mosaics. Interestingly they also introduced the sundial and cooking utensils. They brought civility to Morocco, their ancient ways are still recognized around the world. -

Marrakech, Morocco
The first Berber dynasty, the Almoravids, built the guarded city Marrakech, Morocco. The city was very important because it was the end of two trade routes; one running southward from the Niger River and another running east to Cairo, Egypt. Also the famous Eight Gates of Marrakech were built. Though overtime some buildings have been destroyed, the city and gates remain today. People began to settle down in the new city, and become more civilized. -

Attempted Conquests
The Spainish attempt to 'reconquest' Morocco. They attacked the Mediterranean coast, while, simultaneously, Morocco was being attacked by the Ottoman Empire in the east. Moroccan coasts changed hands several times beginning in the 15 century. The constant, sudden changes ultimately left Morocco weak and exposed to other pressing European powers. It was now easier for other areas to take over, and under new influences Morocco would surely change forever... -
Moroccan Rugs
Carpet designs are introduced to Rabat from their Turkish origins. Though the Berbers had been making rugs before this these kinds of rugs were regarded as the finest and most valuable; and still are today. Rugs are still an integral part of Moroccan art; the rugs carry old tradition. Most regions in Morocco currently manufacture rugs; obviously this is an important part of Moroccan peoples' culture. -
Treaty of Fes to Independence
In 1912 Morocco comes under French rule by the Treaty of Fes. Though their rule was resented by the citizens, the French brought much needed stability to Morocco. Under the French Morocco began to urbanize; new railways, roads, and towns were built. Morocco's administration was updated, the legal system was improved, and education was more avialable. Finally, on March 2, 1956 Morocco became independent from France. -
Terrorism
Numerous suicide bombings and al-Qaeda attacks disrupt the growing country's peace. In April 2007 five people blow themselves up in Morocco's largest city, Casablanca. Later in 2008, 40 people were arrested for being connected to the bombings. Also in 2008, 118 were arrested for being affiliated with al-Qaeda. Terrorism is setting the development of Morocco back because the government is now forced to deal with these problems, before more beneficial matters. -
Islam Becomes Dominant Religion
The Arab people arrive from the east; their goal was to convert the world to Islam. They converted enough Berbers to gain control of Morocco and set up an Arab court and kingdom ruled by Moulay Idriss. Today 99% of people living in Morocco are Muslim; the religion brought in the seventh century has obviously had a lasting effect, it shapes peoples' culture and their way of life.
