  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The War ended with the Treat of Paris, and although a victory for Britain, they suffered major financial losses that led to discontent from the colonies. The Colonists were furious with how Britain began to treat them in attempts to pay of the war expenses, which ultimately led to the American Revolution.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act placed taxes on raw imports of sugar, molasses, coffee, wine, silk, pimento, and indigo. The Colonists were upset that the acts would hurt trade, and that the taxes went against the traditional English rights that they thought would be protected.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act put a tax on most paper goods, and it became the first act that was directly placed onto the Colonists for collection of their taxes. The Colonists were furious and issued a Congress that directly opposed this act because they believe they were entitled to more representation in Parliament.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act did repeal the Stamp Act, however Britain only confirmed that they have full control over the Colonists and the laws that they must follow. Some colonists were celebrating the fact that the British listened to their unrest, however majority of them were fearful because the act seemed to state that more taxes would be inevitable.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Acts was in direct relation to Britain's financial problems worsening as time went on, placing more taxes on goods such as paint, paper and tea, and allowed officials to seize property without due process. The acts enraged the Colonists, and it led to the development of reform against Britain, and they threatened to no longer import goods from Britain.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was an effort made by Britain due to their suffering British East India Tea Company severely suffering, with its purpose to control all trade and distribution of the tea. Colonists were outraged by the act because they believed it was just placing more emphasis on an act that had already taken place, and that it directly hurt American merchants which caused more unrest and reform.
  • Revolutionary War

    Revolutionary War
    The Revolutionary War was known as the American War of Independence because they desired freedom from Britain after the controlling and greedy tactics they used against the colonists. With French Assistance, the Americans were able to force the British to surrender in Yorktown, and ultimately ending in a victory for the Colonists.
