    The National Fascist Party was an Italian political party, created by Benito Mussolini as the political expression of fascism. The party ruled Italy from 1922 when Fascists took the power with the March on Rome, to 1943, when Mussolini was deposed by the Grand Council of Fascism.

    The Nazi Party was a political group that ruled Germany between 1933 and 1945. “Nazi” is a short form of the official name. In English the official name is the National Socialist German Workers' Party. Under Adolf Hitler's leadership, the Nazis started World War II.

    As the economy worsined, Mussolini's popularity grew.Fascists wearing black shirts attacked commuists on the street. Mussolini incited fear of a communist revolution amongst the middle class. In October, 1922, about 30,000 fascists marched to the capital, Rome. They demanded that Mussolini be put into power. The king acquiesced to the people's demands and give control to Mussolini.

    Stalin thought they were behind other Europeans of industrialized. Then he wanted to close gap with the Five Year Plan. Stalin took control of bussiness and began to modernize the Soviet Union by increase the production of steel, coal, oil adn electricity. To reach that goal, he had to cut the production of consumer goods.

    Collectivisation of agriculture begins
    Stalin also wanted to improve agriculture. In 1928, the government took over 25 millions acres of privately owned farms. These farms were then combined into one large government owned farm called collective farming. Many killed animals and destroyed crops in protest. He also created starved people who oppesed collective farming. During Ukraine Terror Farmine where an estimated 7-10 millions people were starved to death.

    Stalin wanted to consolidate power into his hands so he bagan the" Great Purge". It was elilination of anyone who was a threat to Stalin's power. Stalin's Great Purge was responsible for 8 to 13 million deaths.

    Hitler against the Treaty of Versailles and began to rebuild the military. The League of Nations failed to stop Germany from rearming. They were enter a 30 mile wide zone on either side of the Rhineland because it has formed a buffer zone between Germany and France. The France and British appeased German by giving into an aggressor to keep peace.

    Mussolini Attacks Ethiopia
    The Ethiopia had successfully resisted an Italian attempt during the 1890s. To avenge that defeat, Mussolini ordered a massive invasion of Ethiopia in October 1935. The spears and swords of the Ethiopians were no match for Italian airplane, tanks, gun machine and poison gas. In May 1936, Ethiopia empreror appealed to the League of Nations for help but Britain and France did nothing to stop Mussolini because they wanted to keep peace.

    Mussolini and Hitler reached an agreement that became known as the Rome - Berlin Axis. A month later, Germany also made an agreement with Japan. Germany, Italy and Japan came to be called the Axis Powers.
