Natives traveled over 5,000 miles to Indian territory (present day Oklahoma) on a trail of tears. Many natives died on the trail due to Starvation, Sickness, Tired, temperature, The cherokee suffered the most on the trail as they had to walk the farthest and were treated badly by the guards. -

encouraged tribes to assimilate with white culture on their own. Step in the right direction for native rights but it was still not good enough
