Germany invade Rhineland, going against the Treaty of Versailles. This land was labled demilitarized and no troops were allowed here, France and Britain didn't do anything because they didn't see this as a threat. -

Anschluss is the union of Germany and Austria. Germany invades Austria, France and Britain don't react. -
Sudentenland
Czech Territory is given to Germany in the Munich Conference. Britain and France sign over the land to Germany and Sudentenland is annexed into Germany. Czechoslovakia was not apart of the confrence. -
Kristallnacht
Kristallnacht, or The Night of broken Glass, was a series of attacks on Jews in Germany and some parts of Austira. Non-jew citizens and some Nazi soldiers set fire to synagogues, Jewish-owned buisnesses, and other Jewish buildings. Many jews were sent to concentration cams and least 90 were killed. -
Hitler Occupies Czechoslovakia
Hitler's forces invade and occupy Czechoslovakia.He treatened a bombing raid against the capital of Crech unless the President let German troops into Czech. -
Manhattan Project Starts
Secret U.S. project organized to create atomic bombs, courtesy of Albert Einstein. Active 1942-1946. -
Nazi-Soviet Pact
Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union sign this non-agression pact, which guarantees that they won't attack each other. By signing this Germany will not have to fight a two fronts when the war starts. -
Poland
Germany invades Poland. The German-Soviet Pact signed in one month before let Germany to attack Poland without the Soviet Union intervening. The USSR later entered Poland and took part of the land for themselves. Germany crushed Poland in a few weeks of invading. -

This act allows America to to give weapons and supplies to the Allied Powers even if they can't pay. -
Atlantic Charter
Signed by Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. It was made on the agrement that after the war they would nto get new territory and that they would work to keep peace. -

Japan wanted to buy time by crippling our navy for six months so they could go to other islands and collect natural resources first. -

Germany and Italy Declare War On The U.S.
Germany and Italy declare war on America to back up Japan. -
Start of The Bataan Death March
March by the Japanese where they force American and Filipino soldiers to march from Mariveles, Bataan, to San Fernando, Pampanga. From San Fernando they are sent via box train to Camp O'Donnell. -
The Battle of Coral Sea
The battle lasts May 4th though May 8th. It is the first battle fought by just airfraft carriers and the first battle that no ships site or fire eachother. -
Stalingrad
August 23, 1942 through February 2, 1943. Battle fought in a major city on the Volga River between German and the Soviet Union. This is the last offesnive attack from Germany on the Eastern Front. Allies win. -
D-Day
U.S., British, and Canadian troops fought Germany at Normandy. They attack from the front and behind (via paratroopers), confusing the Germans. 150,000 Allied troops carried across the English Channel. Hitler thought it was a trick so he didn't send reinforcements. After one week the Allies gained control of the 60 mile strip. By July they broke through the German lines and by August Paris was liberated as Hiter's troops were in full retreat. -
The Battle of Leyte Gulf
October 23-26, 1944. The largest Naval battle of WWll. Allies win and liberate Leyte and the rest of the Philippines. -
Battle of The Bulge
December 16, 1944 – January 25, 1945. The largest, bloodiest battle the U.S. fight in WWll; Allied Powers win. -
The Battle of Midway
December 16, 1944 – January 25, 1945.The Japanese plan to lure U.S. aircraft carriers into a trap. However, American codebreakers determine the date and location of the attack, and set up their own ambush. -
Yalta Conference
Held February 4–11. It was held by Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin to plan for WWll. -
Start of Iwo Gima
Fought betwwen America and Japan; it lasted six weeks long. U.S. won and they took the island. There were many casualties on both side, and for the first time the U.S. lost more men than Japan. -
Okinawa
Fought between U.S. and Japan. This is bloodiest battle fought in the Pacific, and it lasts until mid-June, around 80 days. Allied Powers win. -
Franklin D. Roosevelt Passes Away
At FDR's retreat in Warm Springs, Georgia, the president passes away of a massive cerebral hemorrhage. Harry S. Truman takes his place in office. -
Hitler's Suicide
The day Hitler kills himself. Officers tell Hitler that the Soviet Union is about a day from overtaking the chancellery and suggestehe escape. Instead he and his wife swallow cyanide capsules, and then he shoots himself in the head with his pistol to make sure he dies. -
VE Day
VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the Germany surrender. After Hitler's suicide his sucessor took control of the Nazis and the act of military surrender was signe May 7th in Reims, France and again officially May 8th in Berlin, Germany. -
Postdam Conference
Held from July 17 to August 2. The Postdam Conference was held by Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin after Germany's surrender to decide what to do. This is where they decie to divide Germany into four zones of occupation. -
Hiroshima
The dropping of the first atomic bomb on Japan. -
Nagasaki
The dropping of the second atomic bomb on Japan. -
V-J Day
On V-J Day (Victory in Japan Day) Japan formally surrenders, officially ending WWll.
