Axis powers surrender
Italy is the first of the Axis powers to surrender on September 8, 1943, two months after the Italian dictator and fascist party leaders were removed from office. Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945, after Adolf Hitler's death. After both allied countries Italy and Germany surrendered Japan fought alone until finally surrendering on September 2, 1945.
