Franklin Roosevelt is elected president
Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or "FDR", won the hearts of the American citizens. He made them feel like they were his friend with "Fireside Chats" and prideful speeches. FDR was crippled because of polio but that didn't stop him from being a great leader of four terms. -
Adolf HItler becomes Chancellor
Hitler was named chancellor by president Paul von Hindenburg. He was scared of how much power Hitler was gaining, and he was pressured by the German public to annoint him. Hitler was a strong speaker with persuading words.the people instantly fell for him. Little did they know who Hitler really was and what he planned to do. -
Germany invades Poland
This would be the beginning of Hitler's blitzkreig plan. He used extensive bombing on railroads, communication lines, and anything that would hurt them. Then he came in with very heavy artillery and machines. The Polish army was not prepared for anything like the German army. It was a complete blindside. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked Hawaii in Honolulu. This attakc was early in the morning and lasted for about 2 hours. Eight enormous battle ships were destroyed. More than 3,000 soldiers were either killed or injured. This was the big entry of the United Stated into the war, because this gave fire to the U.S.. -
The Battle of MIdway
This was one of the biggest naval battles between the U.S. and Japan. The United States was able to crack the code of Japan which helped them tremendously in this. The Japanese were trying ot draw out the AMerican ships and forces. The Americans found this out and were prepared to surprise attack them. -

Battle of the Bulge
This was Hitler's attempt to split the allied armies. He was going to go about this by a surprise blitzkrieg thrust. In this attempt the allied forces left Ardennes too lightly secured. Germany launched and attack on this area and it was one of the biggest attacks of the war. The U.S. suffered over 100,000 casualties. -
Hitler commited suicide
HItler was hiding in a bunker under ground. First he killed his dogs with poison. Then he killed his wife with poison. Last he poisoned himself, but he couldn't handle it so he killed himself with a pistol. -
VE Day
VE day was the victory in Europe. All across Europe German armies were surrenduring. Everyone took this as a cease-fire. WW2 was a two front war and this victory relived Americans from one of their biggest problems. -
Hiroshima
This was the first bombing of the war by the United States. When Truman became president he learned about the secret bomb that the U.S. had. HE had to choose whether or not he wanted to bomb the Japanese city or send troops to fight. Truman knew what was best and decided to sent a bomb to the city of Hiroshima. -
Nagasaki

VJ Day
This was the victory in Japan. Japan finally surrendured to the United States. This was a result of the U.S. dropping bombs on Japan on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The day after Nagasaki, Japan's emperor asked his people to surrender. He said that if they don't surrender more bombs would come so they agreed to surrender.
