Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany
Adolf Hitler becomes Chancellor of Germany and the Nazi party is in complete control. This is the start of his power and him brainwashing the German public. -
Germany remilitarized the Rhineland (13th of March for Anschluss)
Germany went against the Treaty of Versailles and remilitarized the Rhineland area dividing them and France. Also Hitler called for Anschluss which is the annexation of Austria and Germany. -
Nazi/Soviet Nonaggression Pact
Stalin and Hitler sign a nonagression pact. This gave Hitler the green light to invade Poland. Later on, Hitler stabs Stalin in the back and attacks the Soviet Union. -
Invasion of Poland
Hitler invaded Poland and is the offical start of World War II. -
Evacuation at Dunkirk (the start of it)
This was a war fought between the Germans and British in which the British were trying to evacuate all of their troops to the British island. This was the largest evacuation in history with 330,000 allied troops rescued. -
HItler tours Paris
After capturing Paris, France Hitler tours the city. He had finally defeated France and then focused all attention on getting Great Britain next. -
America's military conscription bill is passed.
The U.S. passed a conscription bill just in case there was a war, the country would be ready and not disorganized. -
Axis Pact signed by Italy, Germany, and Japan
Italy, Germany, and Japan sign a pact stating that they are in an alliance and will come to one another's aid if need it be. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor to gain confidence and to show off to Hitler. The Japanese also instigated war with America. -
Battle of Coral Sea
This was mainly a water and air battle but the United States was successful in stopping Japan from taking Australia. The U.S. found out about the plan because the Japanese code was able to be broken. -
Germans surrender in North Africa
After intense fighting, the Nazis finally surrender their land in Africa and start to slowly retreat back into Europe. -
D-Day invasion begins.
Allied troops stromed the beaches in Normandy, France in an attempt to gain a stronghold on the shores and also to liberate France. The invasion lasts a week. -
Liberation of Paris, France
The Allies D-Day invasion was a success and they were able to liberate France, take German POWs and also able to gain even more ground to take Germany. -
Soviet Union liberates Auschwitz
The Soviet troops make it into a notorious Nazi death camp for Jewish people and liberate all of the survivors. -
Yalta Conference (started the fourth and went to the eleventh)
Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt all met together at Yalta to start talking about what their plans were for after the war. This showed President Roosevelt just how aggressive Stalin was. -
Italy surrenders
Italy surrenders to the Allied powers and Rome is the first Axis capital to be taken thus far. Once Italy is under Allied control, the leader is murdered by his own people. -
Victory-Europe Day
This marked the day when the Allies had officially beaten the Germans and all Axis powers that were in Europe. -
First Atomic Bomb
First atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan. The damage was devastating. Many people died and it took a while for the Japanese to realize the bomb was dropped because there were few survivors to tell of the bomb. -
Victory Japan Day
The Japanese sign a surrender aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay marking a victory for the Allies. -
The United Nations formed
Different countries got together on this date and formed the United Nations. This was supposed to replace the older League of Nations.
