The French saw defeat coming. The French Parliment asked Marshall Henri Petain to become prime minster. They then surrendered. -

The president could lend or lease arms and other supplies to any country vital to the U.S. Because of this, Hitler told all of his submarines to sink any cargo ships they saw. -

Germany began to bomb Great Britian. Britian resisted and Germany called off attacks. -

Hitler called the plan for attacking the Soviet Union "Operation Barbarossa". Early in the morning the Germans tanks and planes came. The Soviets were not ready for this attack. -

A declaration of principles by British prime minister Winston Churchill and U.S president Franklin Roosevelt. Allied peace plan was based off of this. -

Americans cracked the code of a secret message from the Japanese. The message was about Pearl Harbor being attacked, but they had no idea when it was coming until they woke up to the sounds of bombs. The attack has begun. -

The bombing of Pearl Harbor scaared Americans. Americans put all of the Japanese in camps so they couldnt invade. -

This was a sea and air battle which lasted 3 days. Americans defeated Japanese forces in the central Pacific. -
Allied invasion of Italy
Roosevelt and Churchill met in Morocco. They decided to attack Italy. They landed on July 10th and captured Italian and German troops by August. -
D-day
Allies began there invasion of the European mainland. British, American, French, and Canadian troops went to fight on a beach in Nromandy. -
German surrender
General Eisenhower accepted the surrender of the Third Reich from the German military. President Roosevelt didnt live to witness the victory, and Harry Truman, Roosevelt's sucessor, recived the news. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Around 73,000 people died in this attack. -
Bombing of Nagasaki
United States droped a bomb on Nagasaki. This killed 37,500 out of 200,000. -
Japanese Surrender
Japanese surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur. It took place aboard the U.S. battleship in Tokyo Bay. -
Nuremberg Laws
This was mad to prevent crimes. the Allies put Nazis on trial. Twenty-two Nazi leaders were charged with waging a war of agressions.
