    Germany Withdraws From the League of Nations.
  • Rhineland

    Rhineland
    Hitler moves millitary into the Rhineland. This is a demilitarized zone between France and Germany.
  • Anchluss

    Anchluss
    Germany takes in Austria. The reasoning behind this was that they were German speaking people and they belonged to Germany.
  • Munich Conference

    Munich Conference
    The meeting of Hitler, Mussolini, Chamberlain, and Daladier. This ended in appeasement of Germany and gave them the Sudetenland. This part of the territory also contained Czechoslovakia's millitary bases.

    Hitler Invades Poland. This is the start of World War 2.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    This was Hitler's plan to invade the Soviet Union. Germany laid seige to Leningrad and when winter hit they were stopped in their tracks for the time being.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacks an american naval base in Hawaii. This destroys 20 warships and 200 aircraft. This is the event that causes the United States to enter World War II.
  • Battle of Coral Sea

    Battle of Coral Sea
    Japanese were planning to attack New Guinea and one of the Solomon Islands. This message was intercepted by the United States and the British. The US and British then stopped the advance on Austrailia and greatly damaged the Japanese.
  • Battle of Midway

    Battle of Midway
    Japanese wanted to crush the Pacific Fleet of the United States. The Japanese code was broken during this battle and Nimitz assembled aircraft carriers and ambushed the Japanese. This then crippiled the Japanese and turned into a crucial victory for the Allies.
  • Guadalcanal

    Guadalcanal
    Japan was building an airbase that had better access to Allied territory. This was a fight for the control of the airbase that continued for six months. This turned the tide in the Pacific.
  • Stalingrad

    Stalingrad
    This was the last major German offensive on the Eastern front. The Soviet forces refused to surrender as did Hitler. The Germans became trapped and had few supplies. Their surrender was in January of 1943.
  • Rommel’s forces defeated

    Rommel’s forces defeated
    The United States invades North Africa led by General Eisenhower. On this day the German forces led by Rommel was defeated and forced out of Noth Africa.
  • Invasion of Italy

    The Invadion of Sicily was in July of 1943. This was the invasion of mailand Italy. Germany rushes to stop the Allied advance and battle slows near Rome. After months of fighting the Allies enter rome in June of 1944. This is the first Axis capital to fall.
  • D-Day

    The Allied invasioin of France. Germany thought that this invasion was a trick at first. In July the Allies had broken through German lines. Paris was liberated in August.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    At first Germany was successful and pushed back Allied forces 60 miles. Then for the final time the Allies push through. This was Germany's las major offensive on Western Front.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    This was the largest landing force in the Pacific. At first Japan did not challenge the landing and retreated to the South. Five days later Japan attacked. This was the bloodiest battle in the Pacific war.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    This marks victory in Europe. The day that German forces surrender without Hitler who had commited suicide.
  • Hiroshima

    Hiroshima
    Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima by the United States.
  • Nagasaki

    Nagasaki
    Atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki by the United States.
  • Surrender of Japan

    Surrender of Japan
    The Soviet Union had declared war the day prior the the Surrender of the Japanese. This marks the day that Japan surrendered after the two atomic bombs were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
