The Rape of Nanjing is also called the Nanjing Massacre. This is when the Japanese troops committed mass rape and mass murder agiant the people of Nanjing. There is an estimated 300,000 dead.
They took pictures of what they did and then the hid it. It wasn't but about 20 years ago when people across the world found out about it. It was an Important event in WWII because it was kinda like a Japanese Holocaust. -
Anschluss
Anschluss refers to when Germany annexed Austria-Hungary. Austria actually wanted to be take over. Austria is a predomintly german speaking country. Germany wanted Austria and Austria wanted to be take over so it was a win win. This is important because this is when Hitler first starts to expand. -
Munich Pact
The Munich Pact was signed by the British and French Prime ministers along with Adolf Hitler. This pact was an agreement that adverted war in Czechoslovakia, but instead gave Czechoslovakia to Germany. This also permitted Germany's annexation of the Sudetenland. This is important because it continued Nazi Germany's expansion and for Hitler's power to grow stronger. -
Kristallnacht
Kristallnacht is when Nazi Germany set Jewish synagogues on fire, vandalized Jewish homes, schools and business. They also killed about 100 Jews. It is also called Night of the Broken Glass. This is important because its one of the first attacks on Jews by Nazi Germany. -
Non-Agression Pact
The Non-Aggression pact was an agreement signed by Germany and the Soviet Union in WWII. The pact said that Germany would never attack the soviet union and the Soviet union would never attack Germany. Germany later breaks the pact and attacks the Soviet union. This is important because in WWII Germany did not want to fight a war on 2 fronts, so they created this pact. Once Hitler felt strong enough he broke the pact and attacked the Soviet Union. -
Invasion of Poland
The Invasion of Poland is also known as the September Campaign. This was a joint invasion by Germany, Soviet Union. It resulted in a German and Soviet union victory. This is important because it marked the begging of WWII. -
Evacuation of Dunkirk
The Evacuation of Dunkirk was code-named Operation Dynamo. It was the evacuation of Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in northern France. This went on from May 27th - June 4th 1940. This happened after a bunch of Belgian, British, and French troops were surrounded by German troops. People said it was a miracle to rescue them. This is important in the war because it saved a lot of troops lives. -
Tri-Partite Agreement
The Tri-Partite Agreement was an agreement between Germany, Italy and Japan signed in Berlin. It is also known as the Berlin Pact. It was a military alliance that was later joined by Hungary. This is important because it created the Triple Alliance in WWII. -
Lend Lease Act
This Act was originally titled Act to Promote the Defense of the United States. It was an american program to help defeat Nazi Germany and also Japan. This act would send Military aid from the U.S. to foreign nations. The Military and other aids such as food and oil, were send to the Allied Nations. This was important because this began the U.S. help in the war. -

Operation Barbarossa was a code name for the Axis Invasion on the Soviet Union. Germany failed at this attack which lead to a crucial turning point in the war. The attack lasted from June 22, 1941 to December 5, 1941.This attack is important because it started a turning point in the war for Germany's downfall. -
Pearl Harbor
The Attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack on the United States by the Japanese.The attack was on December 12, 1941. Japan plans attacked Pearl Harbor by dropping bombs. The attack killed 2,403 citizens. The attack was intended to keep the US Fleet out of things. The plan backfired because the United States declared war on Japan the very next day. This event was important in WWII because its what finally got the U.S. into the war -

The Battle of Midway was a navel battle between the United States and Japan. This was only 6 months after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States defeated the attacked Japanese. This battle was important because it showed how powerful the united states was. -

The Normandy landings is also referred to as the D-Day invasion. It is when the Allied forces invaded northern France by beach. The code name was operation Neptune. Operation bodyguard was set up to mislead the German Nazis to when and where the attack was. This is important because it is the largest seaborne invasion in history. The Battle of the Bulge was the last major German battle on the western front. This battle was fought on December 16th 1944 to January 25th 1945. It was a surprise attack that caught the Allied Forced completely off guard. The battle depleted Germany's armored forces and they were unable to replace them. This battle was important in WWII because it was Germany last major offensive attack. -

Hitler killed himself by gunshot in his underground bunker. Along with his wife who killed herself by taking cyanide. This is important because it ends Hitlers rain and begins the end of WWII -
Surrender of Germany
Germany surrendered on May 7th, 1945 to the Allies. This brought an end to the European conflict. General Alfred Jodl signed the surrender instead of Hitler because Hitler had just weeks before committed suicide. This is important because it ended the European war. -
Hiroshima/ Nagasaki
Hiroshima was the city where the first atomic bomb was dropped. The planning and building of the atomic bomb took months. The United States dropped the bomb. The Bomb was dropped on August 6th, 1945. The second Atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki 3 days later. The 2 bombs killed 129,000-226,000 people. This was important because it finally got Japan to surrender and the war to end.
