  • Annexation of Sudetenland

    Annexation of Sudetenland
    On 1 October 1938 Germany demanded the Annexation of the Sudetenland citing the 3.5 million Germans that lived in the land as the reason for his demands. As they had with the Anschluss of Austria the Governments of Britain and France were set on avoiding war. As such, they capitulated to Germany's demands.   • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    The Attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise attack by the Imperial Japanese military upon the American Naval base of Pearl Harbor. The attack was made with the intent to eliminate the threat of the American Navy in the Pacific. Early in the Morning, the Base was attacked by 353 Japanese Aircraft.ll eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four sunk. The defending forces outnumbered the Japanese by 3 to 2, however they were a mixed force of non-combat experienced regular, national guard, constabulary and newly created Commonwealth units.     Japanese Internment Camps
    After the attack on pearl harbor, the view of Japanese Americans shifted and they were forced into incarceration in internment camps in the western interior of the country of about 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry, most of whom lived on the Pacific Coast. They were forced into the camps without only the comed on their back. the situation in at least some of the Japanese internment camps was bad and became worse rapidly. They were kept in the camps till 1946.

    The battle of Midway was a major battle in the Pacific theater of WWII. American cryptographers were able to determine the date and location of the planned attack, enabling the forewarned U.S. Navy to prepare its own ambush. Four Japanese and three American aircraft carriers participated in the battle. Resulting in the sinking of 4 Japanese Aircraft Carriers
  • Guadalcanal

    Guadalcanal
    On 7 August 1942, Allied forces, predominantly United States Marines, landed on Guadalcanal, Tulagi, and Florida in the southern Solomon Islands, with the objective of using Guadalcanal and Tulagi as bases in supporting a campaign to eventually capture or neutralize the major Japanese base at Rabaul on New Britain.     Island hopping was the US strategy for defeating Japan during WW2. They focused in strategically important islands such as Okinawa and Guadalcanal. This allowed them to get in bombing distance and firebomb Tokyo, aswell as drop Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The battle of Stalingrad was the largest battle between the Germans and the Soviets. Not only was it the biggest battle of the war, but the largest battle in history. The German offensive to capture Stalingrad began in August 1942. Back up by intense Luftwaffe bombings, the battle reduced much of the city to rubble.     The Los Alamos Laboratory, also known as Project Y, was a secret laboratory established during WW2 as part of the Manhattan Project. The Laboratory developed the Fat Man and Little Boy the 2 bombs dropped on Japan at the end of the war. The Project was in operation until December 1946

    the landing operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history. The allies failed to achieve any of their goals on the first day.     The battle of Berlin was one of the last major offensive operations of the war. The Soviet forces attacked the city from the North, East and the South. The city was guarded by tired Whermact forces and whoever the german army could give a rifle.     As the soviet forces approached Berlin Hitler descended further into madness. Not wishing to be captured and put on trial he committed suicide. Versions of his death vary, but 2 of the more prominent ones are that he took cyanide or that he shot himself.
  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference
    The Potsdam Conference was held to determine how the allied nations should deal with post war Germany and to hammer out a European peace treaty. The Nations agreed to occupy separate parts of Germany with the soviets getting east Germany and Britain, France and American occupying western Germany. There was much discussion over the fate of berlin with the Soviets wanting to occupy all of it. Eventually they reached an Agreement where the soviets occupied east berlin and allies west berlin.

    During the final year of the war the US prepared for a mainland invasion of Japan. Due to the projected losses was so high that President Truman decided to take the lesser evil and Nuke Hiroshima to try and force the Japanese to surrender.
