Attack of Manchuria
During their rise in power the Japanese buisnesses had invested heavily in a chinese city called Manchuria. This led Japn to seize the city and almost immediatly anger the League of Nations. -
Alliance with Italy and Germany
Mussolini saw it in his best interest to ally with Germany after seeing the countries growing power. They allied together in what was known as the Rome-Berlin Axis. Japan would later join this alliance and it would become known as the Axis powers. -
Invasion of Poland
Adolf Hitler sent German troops to invade Poland in a lethal surprise attack. German planes bombed Warsaw and shocked man. Poand crumbled under the German attack within days. -
Soviet Union invaded E. Poland
Joseph Stalin sent Soviet troops to occupy the eastern half of Poland. He quickley took control of this country and began to annex the nearby countries. All of this was in an agreement that Stalin made with Htler. -
Kristallnacht
This started when a Jewish youth shot a German employee of the embassy. The angry German troops quickly attacked the Jewish citizens. They destroyed homes and belongings and the streets were said to be covered in shattered glass from the broken things. -
France Surrenders
After the battl of Dunkirk France was very weak. Both Mussolini and Hitler saw this and declared war on G.B. and France. With Italy's help Germany was ale to take Paris in a short timespan. -
Battle of Britain
In a quick attack Germany bombed many of Britains airfields and military bases to weaken the country, then it began to bomb civilian cities. The british continued to fight and eventually managed to find a german coding machine and use it to their advantage. Hitler eventually decided to stop attacking G.B. due to the amount of resistance. -
Lend Lease Act
Allowed the U.S president to lend or lease arms to any country vital to the United States.These countries included Great Briain and the allied forces. Germany grew angry because of this. -
Atlantic Charter
Chruchill and the president of the U.S. at the time created that so that Britain would have a better connection with the U.S. and its government. It upheld free trade among nations and the right of people to choose their own government. -
Pearl Harbor
Due to its success in conquering many countries Japan set its sights on the U.S. In order to weaken the military Japan sent to waves of surprise attacks to bomb Pearl Harbor, an american navy base. This destroyed many U.S ships and killed many people and angered the United States enough to join the war. -
German invasion of Soviet Union
Hitler sent his army into the Soviet Union. He first set out to Leningrad where the harsh winter weakened the German troops. Once the winter was over Hitler was able to send tanks and planes to completly destroy Stalingrad. In response to this the Soviets sent a surrounding counterattack and defeated the German troops. -
Japanese Internement
President Roosevelt in the U.S set up an internment program because Japanese citzens were considered a threat. Many people lost their homes and belongings. In some ways it was like a prison system. -
Battle of Midway
The battle of Midway was between the United States and Japan.Japan had planned a surprise attack that the U.S managed to find out about. So when the Japanese started their attack they were ambushed and most of their planes were destroyed. This was the turning point in the war between Japan and the U.S. -
Allied invasion of Italy
The allied forces attacked Sicily and quickly took it over. This alowed Mussolini to be overthrown which led to Italy's surrender in the war. Without Italy Germany was not as powerful as it had been at the start to the war. -
D-Day
This was the invasion of Normandy. British, French, American, and Canadian troops all fought in this battle. The allied suffered many losses but still managed to cause the Germans to retreat. -
German Surrender
Allied troops destroyed the German defenses and were soon moving across Germany. Knowing that he would lose Hitler commited suicide. Shortly after this General Eisenhower surrendered. -
Bombing of Hiroshima
In response to some worries about Germany creating a powerful bomb the United States started a project to build one. Once built, in order to ensure Japanese surrender the U.S dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This destroyed and demolished everything and everyone in its path. -
Bombing of Nagasaki
This was the second atomic bombing of Japan. Once again an atomic bomb was dropped on a civilian city ,named Nagasaki ,where the bomb killed and destroyed everything in its radius. -
Japanese Surrender
After the dropping of the bombs Japan was thoroughly weakened and had suffered many casualties. To stop the bombs and fighting Japan surrendered on board a U.S ship. This surrender marked the end of the war. -
Nuremberg Laws
These were past during the Nuremberg trials which charged many German soldiers with waging war of aggression. Most of the high ranking Nazi officials were sentenced to death and hanged.
