    The Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact
    <a href='' >Gergs Lesson</a>The Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact was created by Hitler and Stalin. The purpose of this pact was so their home countries wouldn't attack eachother. Another purpose of this was so Hitler would only have to worry about France and Britain attacking from the west. Last, this treaty divided Poland between the two countries.

This was seen as the beginning of WWII because this invasion caused a chain reaction of many battles to come due to Germany and France declaring war right after this had taken place. France, allied with Britain, had decide to declare war on Germany because they realized that the appeasement between them had failed.

In order to make sure this was possible, the US organized the Neutrality Patrol. The purpose of this patrol was to help monitor warlike movements along the coasts of the western hemisphere.

This act was also the principal means for "providing US military aid for foreign nations". Last, this act brought the US one step closer to being involved in the war because it was making them look like they didn't wish to be neutral any more.

    The Attack on Pearl Harbor
    <a href='' >history.com</a>This event was a surprise attack by the Japanese on the US naval base, Pearl Harbor, located near Hawaii. The attack was a bombing which only lasted for two hours but the results were devistating. The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels, 8 battleships, and about 200 airplanes. Over 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died during this attack while another 1,000 were wounded. This event was seen as a major event because was when the US joined the war.

This order placed Japanese people who were living in the United States in internment camps. These camps can be considered as communities in a secured location and can be compared to concentration camps except people weren't killed in them.
  • Battle of Midway

    <a href='' >www.solpass.org</a> Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese continued a naval battle in the Pacific. This was a four day battle between the US and Japanese that was fought on giant aircraft carriers. This battle was seen as the turning point in the war because the US had regained full control of the pacific after destroying hundreds of Japanese planes. However, this didn't seem to stop the Japanese because even after this defeat, they continued to fight.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    <a href='' >www.solpass.org</a>This was the day where General Dwight Eisenhower, leader and commander of the US armies before becoming president, led the United States armies and Allied troops into Normandy, France. The US began to invade and was successful so they continued to go through France, Belgium, and Germany. While the US was fighting from the west, Russian troops were fighting from the east. Germany eventually realized they could no longer continue to fight and surrendered on May 7, 1945.

The main goal of this battle was to split the allied armies by means of a surprise blitzkrieg thrust through Ardennes to Antwerp. This battle was seen as Hitlers last major offense in the war and it brought about the end of the German army and the Nazi reign.

By this time, Hitler had already commited suicide and Roosevelt had died leaving Truman in charge. The surrendering of Germany lead to the end of the war in basically all of Europe. Now all the allies could focus on attacking Japan.

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    <a href='' >Gergs Lesson</a>On this day, the United States dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima. This bomb was named "Little Boy" and it killed 80,000-120,000 instantly. After this, the US warned the Japanese of a second bombing if they did not surrender immediately. However, the Japanese did not react to the warning and two days later, "Fat Man" was dropped on Nagasaki. This nuclear caused from 35,000-74,000 deaths.
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japan Surrenders
    <a href='' >Gergs Lesson</a>On this day, Japan surrendered to the Allies after being bombed by the United States. This day is also known as V-J Day which means victory in Japan. August 15, 1945 marked the end of this war. After the war was over, the Germany and Japanese leaders were put on trial for the crimes they had committed during the war and some were even sentenced to jail or death.
