    The Battle of the Atlantic, the longest continuous military campaign in World War II, ran from 1939 to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, covering a major part of the naval history of World War II. The Atlantic was the route by which all resources came to Britain, without which the country would have collapsed. Had we lost the battle, we wouldn't have had enough weapons. It is a naval battle.

    The evacuation of Dunkirk involved the rescue of more than 338,000 British and French soldiers from the French port of Dunkirk between 26 May and 4 June 1940. If the BEF had been captured, it would have meant the loss of Britain's only trained troops and the collapse of the Allied cause. The successful evacuation greatly boosted civilian morale and created the 'Dunkirk spirit,' which helped Britain fight in the summer of 1940. It was a rescue mission.

    Bataan Death March
    Most suffered from starvation, having to sleep in the harsh conditions of the Philippines. The prisoners unable to make it through the march were beaten, killed, and sometimes beheaded. The siege of Bataan was the first major land battle for the Americans in World War II and one of the most devastating military defeats in American history. The force on Bataan, numbering some 76,000 Filipino and American troops, is the largest army under American command ever to surrender. It was a tragedy.

    The Battle of Tarawa was fought between the United States and Japan on 20–23 November 1943 at the Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands. The first American offensive in the critical central Pacific region. It was also the first time in the Pacific War that the United States had faced serious Japanese opposition to an amphibious landing. At the time, Tarawa was the most heavily defended atoll invaded by Allied forces in the Pacific.

The Battle of the Bulge was the US Army's greatest struggle to deny Adolf Hitler's last chance for victory. As 1944 drew to a close, the Allied forces could look back on a year of great strides toward victory over the Axis powers. It was a last-ditch German military counter-offensive against the Allied armies in the West.

    The Battle of Iwo Jima was a major battle in which the United States Marine Corps and United States Navy landed and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. After the battle, Iwo Jima served as an emergency landing site for more than 2,200 B-29 bombers, saving the lives of 24,000 U.S. airmen. Securing Iwo Jima prepared the way for the last and largest battle in the Pacific: the invasion of Okinawa.
