  • Attack of Manchuria

    13.) Manchuria was rich in coal and iron anf the japaneese had invested heavily in it. Despite objections from the Japanese parliment their army seized Manchuria in 1931. The attack of Manchuria was the first direct challenge to the League of Nations.
  • Kristallnacht

    Kristallnacht
    11.) Kristallnacht is also called the "Night of Broken Glass." The reason for the name of this night is because the main streets of the city were a positive litter of broken glass. Kristallnacht marked a major step-up in the Nazi policy of jewish persecution.
  • Invasion of Poland

    1.) On Septemeber 1, 1939 at dawn Germany invaded Poland. First, German warships invaded dropping bombs from above on the Poles. During that time German tanks and troop trucks crossed the Polish border carrying more than 1.5 million soliders to assault. Geramny than began a merciless bombing in Poland's capital, Warsaw. After the city crummbled it unleashed the start of WWII.

    2.) Stalin made a secret agreement with Hitler, after that was made Stalin sent Soviet troops to take over the eastern half of Poland. This took place on september 17, 1939. He then started to take over the regions in the second part of the agreement. These regions were Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland. Each of these regions fell without a struggle, however Fineland resisted so they fought until finally the Soviet invaders won.
  • France surrenders

    3.) France was attacked by Italy from the south, this caused Paris to fall to the Germans. When the French later saw defeat approching they asked the WWI hero marshal Henri Petain to come to power as the prime minister of France. France surrendered on June 22, 1940 and the northern part of the country was taken over by the Germans. However they left the southern part of France to Petain.
  • Battle of Britian

    4.) After France had fallen Great Britian had to face the Nazis alone. The battle had started in the summer of 1940 the the German airforces began bombing Great Britian. They first targeted Britians airfields and aircraft factories but then focuesed on cities like London the break British morale. After battling Great Britian for a while he was stunned by their resistance so he finally decided to call off his attacks.
  • Alliance with Italy and Germany

    14.) The alliance with Italy was very important to Germany. Once Germany declared war on Great Britian and France Italy became Germany's most impotant axis ally. The alliance that they had posed the greatest threat to peace.
  • Lend Lease Act

    5.) Under this act the president could led and lease arms and other suppplies to any country vital to the United States. This act was passed in March of 1941. By the summer of 1941 the U.S. navy began lending the British ships some the the U.S. arms. Hitler was not happy by this so he ordered his submarines to sink any cargo ships they met.

    7.) Hitler came up with a plan called Operation Barbarossa, this was the plan t invade the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union was not prepared for this invasion as the Germans started invading early on Sunday morning of June 22, 1941.
  • Atlantic Charter

    6.) The Atlantic Chart was a joint declaration that Roosevelt and Churchill issued when they met on August 9th. To issue this they met secretly on a battleship off of Newfoundland. The Atlantic Charter allowed free trade among nations and the right for people to choose their own govenment. Later on it also served as the allies peace plan at the end of WWII.
  • Pearl Harbor

    15.) On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor in Hawaii was under attack by the Japanese. Explosives killed many people and damaged a number of ships including battle ships.
  • Battle of Midway

    16.) During the Battle of Midway the Americans had broke a japanese code so they knew they were going to attack. Since they knew Midway Island was going to be under attack the American forces were hidden beyond the horizon. As soon has Japan launched their first strike American planes swooped in to attack the ships which had many of their planes of them. The strategy of this war by the Americans was a sucess and they won.
  • Allied invasion of Italy

    8.) In January of 1943 Churchill and Roosevelt met together and decided that they would attack Italy first. On July 10th the allied forces invaded Sicily with their 18,000 soliders. It was captured by Italian and German troops by Augest.
  • D-Day

    9.) The invasion of Normandy was the greatest land and sea attack in history. D-Day was the chosen day for the invasion to begin which was on June 6, 1944.
  • German surrender

    10.) Both Hitler and his wife killed themselves. So on May 7, 1945 General Eisenhower accepted the unconditional surrender of Germany. The Third Reich from the German military had then surrendered.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    18.) The Japanese kept bombing parts of the U.S. so they said to Japan that unless they surrendered they could expect a "rain of ruin from the air." The Japanese did not surrender on Augest 6, 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The city had 365,00 people and almost 73,000 people died in the first attack.
  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    17.) Three days after the bombing of Hiroshima the United States dropped a second bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. This city had 200,000 people and 37,500 people were killed. More were also killed from the radiation.
  • Japanese Surrender

    19.) On September 2nd the Japanese surrendered to General Douglas MacArthur. The surrender took place on the United States battleship Missouri and it happened in Tokyo Bay. When Japan surrendered it had ended WWII.
  • Nuremberg Laws

    12.) The internation Military Tribunal represented 23 nations. They put nazi war criminals on trial in Nuremberg, Germany which beceam known as the Nuremberg Trials. The laws during this war were called the Nuremberg Laws. The Nazis were accused of violationg these laws during the law which killed 11 million people.
  • Japanese internment

    20.) The United States and 48 other countries signed a formal peacxe treaty with Japan that ended the war offically. The Japanese had no armed forces so they allowed the U.S. military to protect their coutry. Six moths after that the U.S. occupation of Japan was over. Later the United States and Japan became allies.
