The battle of El Alamein was between the British and the germans. This was a significant battle because it lead to the retreat of the Afrikan Korps and Germans. Also the surrender of North Africa. -
Axis forces surrender in Tunisia
The Axis forces in North Africa, having sustained 40,000 casualties in Tunisia alone. They surrendered 267,000 German and Italian soldiers who became prisoners of war. This ended the North African Campaign. -

The Sixth Army was the best troops Germany had. The Russians had trapped them in the city. Forbidden by Hitler to retreat they surrender after great loss. -

Having agreed in principle to unconditional surrender on August 14, 1945, Japan formally surrenders, ending World War II. Now we celebrate every September 2, the day we beat Japan.
