  • Germany remilitarizes the Rhineland

    Germany remilitarizes the Rhineland
    Hitler ordered his troops to re-enter the Rhineland. This broke the rules of the Treaty of Versailles. Over 32,000 soldiers and armed policemen crossed into the Rhineland and took control by remilitarizing.

    The annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany. The people of Austria were happy with this and went along with Hitler.

    Stalin and Hitler signed this Pact. Germany and the Soviet Union agree to a nonaggression pact. (Will not fight each other)

    The Holocaust is said to have begun with the start of the war. Jewish People were hated by Hitler and his personal resentment made them his target as to why there were problems in the late 1930's. This date varies since many people in the world can not determine a specific date when they started the Holocaust. 6 million Jews were killed through genocide. Other groups that were discriminated against were Gypsies, Poles, and the mentally disabled.

    The British, French and Belgian troops were cut off by the German army during the Battle of Dunkirk. There were 338,000 troops rescued.

    French troops withdrew to avoid a violent battle and total destruction of Paris. Nazi's occupied France and the area of Vichy, France. Vichy went along with the Germans and supported the Germans. The surrender of France was on June 22.

    Roosevelt and Churchill signed the Atlantic Charter. The two leaders wrote up the Atlantic Charter for what they wanted to accomplish after WWII.

    The Soviet Union vs. the Germans. This was the failure of the German Army to capture Leningrad. This battle lasted until January 27, 1944 (871 days).
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    This action by the Japanese led the Americans' into World War II. This was a completely one sided attack and it was the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack was isupposed to be a preventative act in order to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with military actions of the Empire of Japan.

    Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad in Russia. The Germans surrendered on Feb 2, 1943 and the battle ended. It is one of the bloodiest battles in history.

    This was out first invasion. The British and American troops invaded at Al Alamein in Egypt. We were successful here. Dwight Eisenhower was our leader and the Allies were eventually defeated at Kasserine Pass. The Axis powers surrendered in North Africa in May, 1943. The Germans were driven from Africa.

    This stopped many of the WWII hostilites. The Japanese government signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, this was the formal document ending World War II.
