  • The Bataan March

    The Bataan March
    While fighting in the Philippines, Japan forces gained an advantage. Due to this advantage, American soldiers were forced to march 60 miles for five days and nights. Although the soldiers were sick and starving, if they fell down they were beaten and shot.
  • Executive Order 9066

    The conflict between Japan and America was beginning to create conflict for the American Japanese as well. They were moved from their homes and put into internment camps against their will. 110,000 people were effected and one third of them were considered aliens to the Americans. American government wanted them away from the western shore so they could remove any possible Japanese spies from the situation.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    American forces attacked the German beaches of Normandy. This attack was called Operation Overload. The cost was 10,000 Allied casualties but it resulted in the retreat of Hitler's forces.
  • Auschwitz liberation

    Auschwitz liberation
    Auschwitz was one of Germany's extermination camps during WWII. About 1.3 million people were sent to this camp in only 5 years. The Soviet Union finally kicked in and liberated 7,000 jews who were at the time, mostly sick or dying.
  • Raising the flag on Mount Suribachi

    Raising the flag on Mount Suribachi
    At the battle of Iwo Jima, American soldiers raised a flag on Mount Suribachi. At the command of some officers, the Americans raised a second, bigger flag on the mountain. A picture was taken as this was happening and has become a major symbol of the war.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    America's first deployed atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima during WWII. 80,000 poeple died instantly, and over the next week over 10,000 poeple died of radiation sickness and exposure. The bomb killed over 90% of the city's population with one strike.
