Hitler Volates Treaty of Versailles
On March 9th, Hitler announced the creation of an airforce. He later began a military draft that would expand his army. These steps were a violation of the Treaty of Versailles. -
Mussolini and Hitler Agree
Mussolini and Hitler made an agreement acknowledging their political and economic interest. Mussolini spoke of this agreement between Italy and Germany called the Rome- Berlin Axis. Germany and Japan signed the Anti- Comintern Pact. -

Hitler invaded the Soviet Union. He thought that the Russians could still be beat before the winter came. An early winter stalled the Germans. The Germans had no winter uniforms. For the very first time, the German army had been stopped. -
Pearl Harbor
Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands. The same day, other Japanese troops attacked the Philippines. By spring, much of the western Pacific was controlled by the Japanese. -
The Allies Advance
British forces had stopped Rommel's troops in north Africa. The Germans retreated. British and American forces invaded French North Africa. This forced the German and Italian troops to surrender. -
Battle of the Bulge
Hitler attempted to split the Allied armies by means of surprise Blitzkrieg. American units fought against the German advance. The allied line, took on the appearance of a large bulge, therefore giving the battle its name. The Germans ran short on fuel and the American troops determination proved fatal to Hitler. The Battle of the Bulge led to over 100,000 causualities by the U.S. Army. -
U.S. Drops Bomb
Atomic BombThe U.S. drops an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. Japan agreed to unconditional surrender. Japan formally surrenders ending World War II.
