Operation Dyanmo (Dunkirk) Began
The British force, which was moving into into Belgium to meet the German attack, was in danger of being circled and cut off. John Vereker, the leader of the British Force, had to move his troops out, and nearly 400,000 troops were evacuated. If the troops hadn't escaped, the Germans would've killed so many men that the allies might not have won the war from the loss. Dunkirk was one of the largest evacuations in history, one so big is almost unheard of, especially under the German's noses. -
Lend-Lease Act
The Lend Lease Act was signed by President Roosevelt in 1941,stating that "the United States would lend its garden hose to help its neighbor put out the fire, with the understanding that the neighbor would repay in kind rather than receive an invoice for the dollar amount." Basically, the U.S agreed to help Britain, and this boosted morale among allies, and eventually functioned as an "aid and exchange program." This was strange, as tensions were still high between the parties involved. -
Bombing of Pearl Harbor
Japan sent 360 planes to attack the U.S military port of Pearl Harbor, when Japan did this, it prompted Canada, China, and the Netherlands to all declare War on Japan, which then caused Germany and Italy, Japan's allies, to declare war on the U.S, it was the most countries ever involved in a war ever. -
The Battle of Midway
Regarded as a turning point during World War II, the four-day Battle of Midway significantly compromised the capabilities of the Japanese navy and destroyed the country's confidence. All four of the nation's heavy aircraft carriers and a significant number of their top naval pilots were lost in the attack initiated by U.S. air and naval forces. This was an amazing feat on the part of the U.S, such a win practically unheard of, making it a special event. -

Hitler commits suicide, a factor in ending the war for good, after an estimated 60 million deaths, making it the deadliest war in history. -
The Bombing of Hiroshima
The American bomber the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, utterly destroying the city and killing approximately seventy-eight thousand people. -
Bombing of Nagasaki
When on August 9 the Japanese still had not surrendered the United States dropped another bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. The top Japanese and military leaders still did not want to surrender. The Japanese government argued over the matter until August 15. This killed more people and also terrified the people of Japan, leading to Japan's surrender and the end of the war. -
