Japan Invades Manchuria
The Japanese Empire invaded other countries in hopes to gain more land and power for their country. Manchuria supposedly had materials that were rich and overflowing with reason for Japan to invade. Japan occupied Manchuria until 1932, joining the axis powers. -
Rise Of The Nazis
The Nazis were a group of German soldiers who under the command of Adolf Hitler, destroyed Jewish neighborhoods and killed millions. More than thirteen million votes were gained at the end of July and the Nazi party was set off. Nazis were imprisoned under the "Acts of Political Violence" but in 1933, Hitler freed them. -
The Great Purge
The Purge was Stalin's way of destroying those who did not fit in his vision. Kirov was killed and Stalin took his place and started to arrest and murder those he "claimed" to be apart of the murder. Stalin took in religious leaders, imprisoning them and closing churches. This went on from 1934 to 1939. -
Social Security Act
This act used to be named Economic Security Bill. Frank Buck took this act to the committee to get it renamed. It was passed to keep track of American citizens and protect America from outside threats. -
Italy Invades Ethopia
Italy invaded Ethiopia to conquer a country and make the country feel more powerful. At the time, the Fascist leader took on Hitler's ideas for taking over and expanding. The Italians were unsuccessful and taking over what is now Ethiopia. -
Rebellion in Spain
In 1936, a civil war broke out in Spain. Francisco Franco led troops to overthrow their government, rebelling against them. The Republicans were able to settle down the uprising though. -
Anti-Comintern Pact
In 1936, Germany and Japan signed the Anti-Comintern Pact against the Soviet Union. On November 6, 1937, Italy also joined this pact. This was the beginning of the Axis Powers forming. -
Neutrality Act of 1937
This act was passed by the United States, says that it was not permitted to trade with anyone in the world who were considered "Belligerent". Though there were exceptions for France and Britain later on. Many neutral acts were passed in the 1930's to keep America out of European target mostly from their enemies. Amelia Earhart's Dissapearance
Amelia Earhart was a pilot who dissapeared while flying around the world. No one could find Amelia or her plane after it was said to have crashed. Ever since, theories had been created to explain this mystery until bone essence were found on an island possibly explaining what had happened. -
Japan Invades China
Japan wanted to take over Asia and so they invaded China. This caused war in the pacific including the resistance from the Chinese. Millions of people were killed and raped as the important cities were occupied by Japanese forces. -
Germany Invades Poland
In 1939, Germany invaded Poland under the German-Soviet Pact. Britain and France declared war on Germany but Germany was taking over the country fast. Despite the war efforts, Poland was under Germany's control until 1945. -
Italy's Invasion in Egypt
British troops occupied Egypt for its canals under a treaty that was made in 1936. Though in 1940, Italians were sent into Libya by the thousands Italy wanted to send German troops after the British in order to take over Egypt but their attempt failed. -
Axis Powers Formed
The Axis powers were the alliance between Germany, Italy, and Japan. On September 27, all three countries signed the Tripartite Pacts. This formed their alliance as Germany promised both Japan and Italy the power that they once held and even more domination. -
Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor was the day the Japanese bombed and attacked the American naval fleet. Almost 20 vessels as well as battleships were destroyed. This event moved president Roosevelt to declare war on Japan. -
United States enters WWII
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United states declared war on Japan. Entering WWII also strengthened the relationship between America and Britain.Only over about 400,000 Americans were killed in WWII. -
Axis Powers Declare War On The US
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US declared war on Japan. This led Japan going to Germany with their pact and declaring war on the US. Hitler believed that Japan could take over the US and did not want the US to declare war first. -
Italy's New Government
Benito Mussolini was Italy's prime minster during most of WWII. He was a fascist dictator to the country but in 1943 a new government was able to take place. Pietro Badoglio became the new prime minister of Italy under the King's decision. -
Hungry's German Mnister
Hitler believed that Hungary would not stay faithful to Germany for much longer. This is when Hitler changed the prime minister with a German government that he knew would stay faithful. Though the Hungarian Jews that were housed in Hungry were deported to Auschwitz. -
America in The Philipines
America already had bases in the Philippines but by 1944, the US sent more troops out there. The Philippine islands were fought hit by American forces. This was to get closer to Japan and to take control over the nation. -
Roosevelt's Fourth Term
FDR was elected once again on November 7th. The nation believed that Roosevelt had done the most for the welfare of them all and had protected them. Roosevelt did what he could to keep America out of war until the bombing of Pearl Harbor. -
The Death Of Hitler
On this day, Hitler was said to be dead. Hitler killed himself before they fall of the German power, leaving no one to lead Germany. They say he committed suicide but since his body was never actually taken in to be inspected before they burned it, no one really knows for sure if it was him. -
VE- Day
From May 7-9, German forces surrendered to the allied powers. This day is known as Victory day in Europe. The Soviet army had depleted Germany of its fighting powers until they finally gave up. -
United States Bombs Japan
On August 6, the first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima in Japan. The United States killed more than 80,000 people and caused radiation exposure. Another atomic bomb was dropped over Nagasaki, another Japanese city. -
Marshall Plan
This plan is also called the European Recovery Program. This plan was to aid Europe in the recovery from the money lost during the war. Thirteen billion was given for this plan and was said to ave helped European economy. -
NATO
NATO which is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization includes twelve nations. This is to protect these nation from the Soviet. It was not until later did other countries start to join. -
Korean War
In 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea. The North took over the capital of Seoul as the North wanted to make both nations one. The United States helped the South and China helped the North until they finally agreed on keeping their division.
