    Assassination
    Hours after escaping a separate assassination attempt Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by a young Bosnian. This event led to the outbreak of the First World War. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated after a failed bomb attempted in his car. The day he was assassinated was also the day of his fourteenth wedding anniversary.

    War Declared

    The Australian government made demands of Serbians which they rejected causing Austria to declare war against them. Many in the Austria leadership saw Serbia as a threat because the empire was large and made up of numerous ethnic minorities. Austria expected Serbia to reject the demands and hoped to quickly defeat Serbia before Russia, which was allied with Serbia.

    Battle of Somme
    Known to be one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War was the battle of Somme which caused around 400,000 missing or dead in 141 days. This represented the largest loss that the British Army suffered in one day. By the end of the war, the British and French claimed 6 miles of German-occupied territory.

    The US entered the war

    Germany stepped up their effort to attack British merchant vessels with U-boat submarines. British intercepted the Zimmerman telegram which was a type of secret communication from Germany and put forward an alliance with Mexico If the US entered the war.

    Attempted to join unit 22 in Milwaukee but was rejected because it was full and told that they needed people in the home service in Michigan.
  • Sickness

    Clara collapsed at about 2 in the morning while she was on night duty. They took her to the nurse's headquarters and put her to bed. At 4 in the afternoon, they took her temperature and it was 104. her a big dose of medicine oil and an hour later found her unconscious in the bathroom with a temperature of 106.
  • Aircraft

    While watching an air raid from the field hospital she heard the drones and planes above. While she was standing at the window near her wards watching the fire display the head chief was running up the stairs to save her from what she didn't know was coming. She got tired and wanted to rest when the head chief hurriedly pulled her away from the window. immediately after a piece of aircraft fell exactly where she was standing.
  • Reims

    Clara and three other girls were on night duty and got leave from Paris. They Encountered four handsome sailors who stated that they were going to Reims and so the girls followed the boys to Reims. The girls were getting off the train and because they didn't have the tickets to go to Reims they tried to run to the wired fence while the sailors followed. They went under the fence of Reims and were the first to see the battlefield.
  • Jaw Fracture

    Clara had an impacted wisdom tooth and she went to the dentist to get it pulled out but the Doctor fractured her jaw. And that caused her to have her jaw wired up for about 6 weeks. Clara and the dentist began to get closer and went out to dinner and walked to where the daisies were to be picked up and taken back to the hospital. When people saw Clara walking with him they started to sing “Here Comes the Bride” and then started to sing “The Rose Of No Man’s Land”.

    Allies were suffering after being hit by four major German attacks. Launched counter, using tanks on a large scale which led Germany's allies to dissolve Kaiser Wilhelm II was forced to renounce Germany. It is estimated that in the last 6 hours of fighting 2,738 men were killed. The Armistice was the ceasefire that ended hostilities between the Allies and Germany.
