This battle occured on the Philipines. Prisoners were stripped of their weapons and forced to march, if they didn't then they were killed. The Japanese won. -

16 american bombers attacked Tokyo. This didn't do very much damage to Tokyo. Mainly, gave americans something to celebrate. -

This was fought during May 4-8. This was a major navy battle between America and Japan. America was on the defensive position. This protected Australia. -

They were hoping to draw us out to the allusion islands to attack us and destroy our navy. BUT we broke their naval code. We shock them and surprise them. We sank 4 of their carriers, they sank one. -

Started in August 1942. Trying to win back a piece of land that japanese have taken. First offensive battle, and we won. -
DDAY at Normandy
The weather on this day was far from ideal. But if they were to post-pone this it would have been several weeks. They also did not expect us to invade on this day beacause the weather was so bad, they sent home soldiers etc. Which gave us another advantage. -
Battle of Leyte Gulf
Japanese lost 4 aircraft carriers, 3 battleships, and many other vessels. Many of the Japanese commit suicide just to hit us. -

This occured in the winter of 1944. Germans create a bulge in lines but the offence eventually fails. -

this island was 750 miles from bloody fight. -

This was air firebomb rades on japan from the united states. -

350 miles away from japan. Japanese didn;t challenge landing but they attacked 5 days later. -
VE day
known as victory in europe day. This was the formal acceptance of the Nazi's surrender. -

This bomb occured in Hiroshima. This did a lot of damage and got Japanese to think about surrender. -
ATOMIC BOMB 2
3 DAYS AFTER THE FIRST BOMB WE BOMBED AGAIN! This was the last one, which made japanese surrender 6 days later -

There was news that the war was over around August 15, but theformal surrender of Japan occured on September 2 1945. Truman said this was VJ day.
