Between June 4th and 7th of 1942, American and Japanese naval forces faced off at Midway Atoll. American victory here boosted morale greatly, and essentially won the campaign in the Pacific. -
D-Day
On June 6th, 1944, Allied forces stormed the beach at Normandy. Although the Allies suffered heavy casualities, Operation Overlord was overall a success. -
Battle of the Bulge
Through the winter of 1944, the Nazis went on their last offensive. The Allies faced great adversity in the dense forest region of Ardennes. -
VE-Day
VE Day was set aside to commemorate the Allied victory in Europe. However, the Nazis did not formally surrender for another 2 days. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
At 8:15 AM, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima. Although warning pamphlets were dropped in advance, 60% of the city was leveled. -
VJ Day
On the afternoon of August 15th, Japan formally surrendered on the USS Missouri. Victory over Japan was highly celebrated.
