  • Germany invades Poland

    Germany invades Poland
    On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland. Although Germany had tried to invade in the past Germany had a new fighting strategy, the blitzkrieg which they tried out for this time during this invasion and also had the Soviet Union on their side. Germany brought fast tanks and powerful aircrafts to this fight and two days later war was declared on Germany by Poland, France, and Britain. By the end of September, all of Poland had been taken over by Germany and the Soviet Union.

    Germany decides to invade France once again using the blitzkrieg strategy and invaded France through Belgium and surrounded them from all sides leaving France to surrender and Germany with another victory.

    Germany bombs London
    Germany decided to invade Britain but new that Britain's naval power was much more powerful so Germany began to release bomb all over Britain and started an airwar. while at first Germany had the upper hand Britain began to catch on to their strategies. germany kept bombing hoping to lower citizen morale but it encouraged citizens to fight back. After 11 months of bombing, Germany gave up.

    The United States decided to lend or lease weapons to a country that was intertwined with the U.S. since Britain had no more cash the United States gave Britain war supplies and old naval warships in return for military bases in Bermuda and the Caribbean

    Japan decided to attack the U.S. as it stood in its way of creating an Asian empire. Japan bombed pearl harbor 2,403 died and ships were sunk. The U.S. stopped trading oil with Japan.

    U.S. declares war
    Four days after the bombing of pearl harbor the U.S. declares war on Japan and on December 11th Germany and Italy declare war on the U.S.

    Bataan Death March
    Filipinos and American soldiers were rounded up by Japanese and pushed to extremes. this included being starved and abused. they were forced to walk 65 miles.

    While the allies were defending midway a Japanese fleet was found and allies began to attack with planes and bombers this was a turning point because the U.S. began regarding territory back from the Japanese.

    Warsaw Ghetto uprising
    Tanks and SS soldiers were sent into the Warsaw ghettos to destroy it in hopes of defeating Germany but they were outnumbered. during this fight, Germany began to gather up Jewish people to send them to camps 7,000 Jews died while 50,000 were sent to concentration camps.

    D-Day
    An allied invasion that was set to attack Normandy in France. the allies came prepared with many soldiers but the Germans fought back just as strong. but allied still won this fight. considered the largest seaborne invasion in history.

    Liberation of concentration camps
    While Soviet troops pushed westward in Germany they found Majdanek a Nazi death camp and realized all the wrong the Germans were doing. They found mistreated prisoners and the worlds largest crematorium. The allies continued to liberate prisoners in various camps.

    Battle of the Bulge
    Germany sent tanks to fight American and British forces hoping to split the allies this battle cost the Germans 120,000 troops, 600 tanks, and 1,600 planes this battle made it clear the Germans couldn't win the war from now on.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    The U.S. decided that Iwo Jima would be a good naval base and decided to invaded even though it was heavily guarded with 20,700 troops at the end of the battle only 200 Japanese troops were left.

  • Hiroshima and Nagasaki

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki
    The U.S. released two atomic bombs over Japan. Little boy over Hiroshima and Fat Man over Nagasaki. 200,000 people died due to these bombs but they were the reason Japan surrendered.
