Battle of Moscow (Operation Barbarossa)
Adolf Hitler's main objective in invading the Soviet Union was always Moscow. Weather was the deciding factor for this battle, the Red Army was exhausted but saved by the cliche Russian winter. Temperatures dropped as low as 50 below zero. German troops had no winter clothing, and the Panzers were not designed to operate in such low temperatures. On 5 December 1941 the Russians counterattacked and pushed the German army back. -
Battle of Midway
After Pearl Harbor, the Japanese hoped to eliminate the United States as a strategic power in the Pacific Theatre. The Japanese chose to occupy Midway Atoll to lure American aircraft carriers into a fight and extend their defensive perimeter. The Americans had broken the Japanese code, and knew a rough estimate of when, where and in what numbers of strength the Japanese would appear. The Japanese had no knowledge of the Americans knowledge on this, and lost this battle. -

The Battle of Stalingrad was a major battle on the Eastern Front of World War II in which Nazi Germany and its allies fought the Soviet Union for control of the city of Stalingrad (now Volgograd) Russians consider it to be the greatest battle of their Great Patriotic War, and most historians consider it to be the greatest battle of the entire conflict.The Battle of Stalingrad was one of the bloodiest battles in history, with combined military and civilian casualties of nearly 2 million.
