The Battle of Britain was a major air campaign fought over southern England in the summer and autumn of 1940. The Battle of Britain took place between July and October and it lasted for 3 months. The Germans began by attacking coastal targets and British shipping operating in the English Channel.

Attack on Pearl Harbor
On this day hundreds of Japanese planes attacked the American Naval base near Pearl Harbor. The barrage was devastating and it lasted only for 2 hours. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded.

Bataan Death March
Approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops on Bataan were forced to make a 65-mile march to prison camps.The marchers made the died in intense heat and were subjected to harsh treatment by Japanese guards. Thousands of people died and it became known as the Bataan Death March.

Battle of Coral Sea
It was the first air- sea battle in history. This battle resulted from Japanese efforts to make an amphibious landing in southeast New Guinea. Both sides suffered damages but Japan didnt find enough planes to go back home.

Italy surrenders to Allies
General Dwight Eisenhower publicly announces the surrender of Italy to the Allies. With Mussolini deposed from power and the earlier collapse of the fascist government in July, Gen. Pietro Badoglio, began negotiating with Gen. Eisenhower for weeks, and then Badoglio finally approved a conditional surrender.

D-Day
This resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. Hitler didn't believe that the battle was real so he didn't send troops. This causes the loss of battle and allowed allies gaining land.

1st Liberation of Concentration Camps

Hitler committed suicide as the empire he built collapsed around him. On this day Hitler consumes a cyanide capsule, then shoots himself with a pistol. Hitler had fled to his bunker on January 16.

Atomic Bomb #1
On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people.
