Soviet Union invades Poland from the East.
The Soviet's foreign minister declared that the Polish government should cease to exist. This exercises the Hitler-Stalin Non-aggression pact. Hitler’s troops were already wreaking havoc in Poland, which is why the Soviets were so committed to attack. Some Poles had to surrender to the Soviets to avoid being captured by the Germans. The Soviet Union would wind up with about three-fifths of Poland and 13 million of its people as a result of this invasion.
  • Germany invades Norway

    Germany invades Norway
The German occupation of Norway began after German forces invaded Norway. Germany attacked because they were feeling imperialistic and Hitler was in take-over mode. Conventional armed resistance to the German invasion ended on 10 June 1940. The Germans then controlled Norway until the capitulation of German forces in Europe.
  • Battle of Britain

    Battle of Britain
This battle consisted of the Royal Air Force defending the United Kingdom against the German Air Force. It is described as the first major campaign fought entirely by air forces. The Germans were trying to take over as much land as they could and seem to be the instigator in many of these battles. The battle ended when Germany's Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Force. This was despite months of targeting Britain's air bases and civilians.
  • Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor

    Japan Bombs Pearl Harbor
This was a surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service against the United States' naval base in Hawaii. Japan intended the attack as a preventive action to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from completing military actions they planned in Southeast Asia. The base was attacked by 353 Imperial Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes launched from six aircraft carriers. The attack led to the United States' entry into World War II.
  • Nazi Germany and its Axis partners declare war on the United States.

Nazi Germany and its Axis partners declare war on the United States.
Several days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the United States declaration of war against the Japanese Empire, Nazi Germany declared war on the United States. This was in response to what was claimed to be a series of provocations by the United States government when the US was formally neutral during World War II. The decision to declare war was made almost entirely by Adolf Hitler. This was the turning point that entered the US into World War II.
  • Hitler commits suicide

    Hitler commits suicide
Hitler shot himself with a pistol while burrowed away in a refurbished air-raid shelter. It is believed that both he and his wife swallowed cyanide capsules. The bodies of Hitler and Eva(his wife) were cremated in the chancellery garden by the bunker survivors. A German court official didn't declare Hitler dead until 1956. This was the end of the Germans involvement in the war as they later surrendered to the Soviets.
