    Japan Blows Up the Railroad in Manchuria
    Dressed as Chinese soldiers, the Japanese blew up part of a railroad in Manhuria. Japan wanted a reason to blame China and take over Manchuria. Japan needed Manchuria for its resources. The League of Nations blamed Japan for this. The U.S. did not want to threaten them by force.

    Hitler Violates the Treaty of Versailles
    Adolf Hitler thought that the Germans needed more land for his perfect Ayran Race and great civilization. He created a new air force and military draft. About a year later, he sent troops to Rhineland. This violated the Treaty of Versailles.

    The Germans attacked Poland. Germans used a tactic called blitzkrieg. These were very fast and efficient attacks. They used panzer divisions which were lines of aromoured people. Poland surrendered after being brutally attacked. Once they surrendered, Germany and the Soviet Union divided Poland.

    France and Great Britian declared war on Germany. Chamberlain, the Prime Minister, of Britian declared war because Germany continued to attack Poland. France evntually surrendered and Britian remain in the war, but asked for help from the U.S..

    Hitler thought that Britian was still fighting because they would eventually get help from the Soviet Union. Hitler declared war so that Britians hopes of getting help from them would be gone. He hoped to attack them earlier, but he had problems in Balkans. This war went through the winter and Germany was eventually stopped because of lack of proper supplies and a counterattack by the Soviet Union.

    Pearl Harbor VideoThe Japanese attacked the U.S. military base in Honolulu, Hawaii with a mission of blowing up and destroying the Pacific Fleet. They wiped out nearly 20 naval vessels. The U.S., a day later declared war on Japan.

    This battle was between the U.S. and Japan. Japan planned on attacking the U.S., but the U.S. had translators. The U.S. came up with their own plan on how to trap them. The U.S. was successful and defeated Japan.

    This is also known as D-Day. Over 150,00 soldiers attacked the beaches of Normandy, France. The Allies won this invasion. This was a major turning point in the war.
  • Iwo Jima

    The U.S. landed on the Japanese island in February. There were Japanese forces waiting for them. The U.S. won the battle after just fighting for one month.
  • Hitler's Death

    Hitler commited suicide. He did this because he knew Germany had no chance of winning the war. He first swallowed a poisenous capsule, and then later shot himself with his pistol.

    The U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb to explode on Hiroshima, Japan. Ninety percent of the city was destored and many were killed.
    The ones tha weren't killed by the bomb died from radiation.

    This was the second bomb that was dropped on Japan. This was actually meant to be dropped on one of the following: Kokura, Kyoto and Niigata. This killed about 40,000 people.
  • The War Ends

    After being bombed twice, Japan finally surrendered. The six year war was finally over. A cold war still reamained between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
