    Japan invades Manchuria

    Japan was becoming increasingly crowded due to its limited size as a nation and its rapidly increasing population. Manchuria offered nearly 200,000 square kilometres which, as part of a Japanese empire, would easily accommodate any over-spilling population.
  • Munich Conference

    The Munich Agreement was a settlement permitting Nazi Germany's annexation of portions of Czechoslovakia. This land was regarded as the Sudetenland. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the future of the Sudetenland in the face of ethnic demands made by Adolf Hitler. The agreement was signed by Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

    On this day the Germany and the Soviet Union signed an agreement not to attack each other. Adolf Hitler used the pact to make sure Germany was able to invade Poland. The pact fell apart when Germany invaded the Soviet Union later.

    This was a program inhich the United States supplied France, Great Britain, the Republic of China, and later the USSR and other Allied nations with food, oil, and materiel. The United States shipped a total of 50 billion dollars worth of material. The terms of the agreement provided that the materiel was to be used until time for their return or destruction. In practice very little equipment was returned.

    This was the code name for the Nazi invation of the Soviet Union. The operation was driven by Adolf Hitler's desire to conquer the Soviet territories as outlined in Mein Kampf. This resulted in the opening of the Eastern Front.
  • Pearl Harbor Attack

    On this day in the morning a suprise attack on Pearl Harbor conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, in the United States Territory of Hawaii. The bombing killed more than 2,300 Americans. This attack completely destroyed the U.S.S. Arizona and the U.S.S. Oklahoma.

    On this day American and Philipino prisoners of war were forced to march from Saisaih Pt. and Mariveles to Camp O'Donnell. 2,500-10,000 Philipino and 100-650 American Prisoners of war died making this journey.     This day, known as D-Day, is the day that the United States invaded Normandy. This is known as the largest seaborn invasion in history. The weather for this attack was far from good but rescheduling this attack would delay it for another two weeks. This was a very decisive victory for the Allies
