    after D-Day germany now had to fight a war on 2 fronts, the same problem that germany faced in WWI. The Soviets were pushing in from the east, forcing germany to give up its territory in Latvia, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. Allied armys were also pushing on germany from the west.

However taking Okinawa would be the mast large and strategic advance in all of the war in the pacific.After a brutal fight, the allies gained okinawa and lost roughly 50,000 men.
