Annexation of Sudetenland
Sudetenland was a predominantly German region that was made a part of Czechoslovakia after WWI. Due to its German population, it became a major point of tension between Hitler and the surrounding countries. Hitler promised his people that he would take back Germany and unite all Germans. He also promised that this would be the last territory he would take. To keep his promise to the German people he annexed Sudetenland. However, soon after he broke his promise to surrounding countries. -
Pearl Harbor
The Japanese flew over Pearl Harbor and bombed it. The purpose was to drag the US into the war with a crippled Pacific Navy, thus giving the Japanese a head start on the Pacific front. Invasion of Philippines
Due to fear of Japanese invasion, the United States sent troops to the Philippines to protect it. All this even though the states were pushing for the liberation of the Philippines. After Pearl Harbor and several small attacks elsewhere, the Japanese began their major attacks on the Philippines. -
Japanese Internment Camps
A direct effect of the Pearl Harbor bombings was discrimination towards Japanese- Americans. The American people doubted their loyalty to the states and believed that some were spies. To solve the problem, FDR signs Executive Order 9066 sending all Japanese Americans to internment camps. -

Just six months after Pearl Harbor, this battle was known to be the turning point in the Pacific War. The Allies won this naval battle.

Guadalcanal
Guadalcanal was the first major battle for the Allies in the Pacific Theater. The Allies surprised Japanese forces and took over their Air Force leading to a naval battle. Both sides endured major losses but the Allies were the conclusive victors.

Stalingrad was the largest battle of WWII. Germany fought Soviet Russia for control over Stalingrad, a city in southern Russia. -

Japan had taken over many small Pacific islands throughout all of the Pacific Ocean. To free these islands of Japanese Rule, the Allies went from island to island liberating them. This tactic was known as island hopping. -
D-Day
Also known as the Normandy landings, D-Day was an Allied invasion into Normandy meant to take back Europe from Nazi Germany. While the Allies suffered massive losses, the invasion was a success.

Allied leaders Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt met at Yalta to discuss the final plans to defeat Germany and how to manage it post-war. They decided to divide Germany into zones that would be managed by the Soviet Union, the United States, Italy, and Great Britain. -

Germany fought the Soviets over the city of Berlin. The Germans were vastly outnumbered by the Soviet army ultimately leading to the loss of the city. -
Death of Hitler
As the war in Europe came a close, Allied forces had surrounded Germany. Hitler quickly realized that he had no chance of escaping capture. Instead of being humiliated in front of his country, he took his own life. -
Los Alamos
Los Alamos, New Mexico was where the atomic bomb was first tested. The bomb detonated which resulted in a revolution of modern warfare. -

Allied leaders Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt met in Potsdam to discuss Peace strategies in Europe yet no peace treaties were written. They also discussed how Germany would be run. -
Hiroshima
Hiroshima is the first city to be bombed by the Atomic Bomb. This was the first time nuclear weapons had been used in war. Hundreds of thousands died on impact while millions died soon thereafter due to exposure to radiation.
