    This was a pact signed by Germany, Great Britain, France and Italy. This pact was made as an attempt to stop war, but Hitler continued invading. They agreed to cede Sutenland to Germany as an agrement to stop invading other territories. Hilter agreed, but a year later invaded Poland.

    Non-Aggression Pact
    This was a treaty made between Germany and the Soviet Union. This pact was a promise not to attack each other for the next 10 years. Soviets saw this as a time of peace with Germany and time to build up their military. Germany used this pact as a way to invade Poland unopposed. This pact was broken by Germany when they attacked the Soviet Union just a few years later.

    Germany Invades Poland
    This invasion took place soon after the non-aggression pact was signed by Germany. It was broken when Germany invaded Poland. This was the ultimate start of WWII. Britain and France helped protect Poland. They then declard war on Germany.

    Blitzkrieg
    Blitzkrieg, meaning lighting war, was first used by the Germasn in WWII. It was based on speed, co-ordination, movement and surprise. The strategy was to hit hard and then move on before the soldiers had time to attack. It was not fast, therfor the use of surpise was used. This would cause a panic in the people.

    This was between Germany and Britain airforces. It was one of the largest sustained bombings. It was a Britain victory. Britain's victory saved them from a ground invasion. They proved that victory could be won by air alone.

    This act was made by the US to provide other countries fighting the Axis powers with equipment and services. The president would provide those struggling with food, weapons and or equipment.

    This started when Germany invaded the Soviet Union. This was the largest military attack in WWII. Much of the attack was used with the Blitzkrieg.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    This was a surprise military attacl by the Japanese. They attacked the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The Japanese's two goals in this attack were to destroy the US aircrafts carriers and sinking as many ships as possible. With completeing these goals, they hoped it would keep us quiet for a while.

    Bataan Death March
    The Japanese gathered about 78,000 prisoners and assemebled them to march. They marched from east of Bataan to their camp sight Camp O' Dennell, north of the peninsula. During the walk they had very little food and water. Many suffered from hunger, disease, heat exhaustion or thirst.

    This was a naval battle. The American planes on land and on carriers defeated the Japanese fleet. They did this on the way to the Midway islands. This battle took place only a few months after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

    Battle of Stalingrad

    This battle was between Germany and it's Allies against the Soviet Union. They were fighting for control of the city of Stalingrad, in Southern Russia. It ended when the German army surrendered. This was one of the bloodiest battles in history.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    The first wave bagan with paratroopers, when men jumped out of planes using parachutes in the middle of the night. The next wave was when planes started bombing. The last, and main wave was when thousands of ships with troops, weapons, tanks, and equipment invaded the beaches of Normandy. They pushed there way inland. By the end of the war, with help from other troops they pushed Germany out of France

    This was the last major German fight against the Allies in WWII. He believed the alliance between Britain, France, and America was not strong enough. He thought a major attack would split them up. This attack on America was known as Battle of Bulge.

    THis was when the US landed on the island of Iwo Jima. The island was defended by the Japanese naval and army. After about a month of fighting in the difficult condition there was finally a victory. The US finally had victory.

    Battle of Okinawa

    This battle had the greatest casualties. The Japanese had about 100,000 casualties. The Allies had about 50,000 casualties.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima/Nagasaki

    America dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima. It took out about 90% of the city. Three days later we bombed again in Nagasaki. The bombings caused Japan to surrender from WWII.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    V-E Day is also known as victory in Europe. This day marks when the German troops finally put down their weapons in Europe. This was the ending of WWII in EUrope.
  • V-J Day

    V-J Day
    This day marks the victory over Japan. This is when Japan formally surrendered from the war. Although Japan had already surrendered, this marks the day when they formally signed the document saying they were out of the war.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    This pact is a mutual defense organization that put the Soviets in command of the armed forces of the member state. The pact included the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. The pact called that the other members come to defense when needed. This pact remained until 1991.
