  • Blitzkrieg

    The term blitzkrieg is also know as the "lightening war." It was when Germany decided to suddenly attack different countries.
  • Neutrality Act of 1939

    Once war began in Europe, Roosevelt felt confined by the limitations of the Neutrality Acts.He issued a proclamation of American neutrality, he was anti-nazi, and wanted to aid the democracies in Europe. In the end congress passed the Act, which included a cash-and-carry provision.
  • Nazi-Soviet Nonaggression Pact

    Hitler was concerned about war with the Soviet Union than Britain and France. Not wanting to fight a war on two fronts Germany signed the pact.
  • Axis and Allied Powers

    The Axis Powers consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan. Then later joined by Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria. The Allied Powers consisted of Great Britain and France. They were later joined by the Soviet Union and the United States.
  • Winston Churchill

    Winston Churchill was a British statesmen, army officer, and writer who served as Prime Minister from 1940-1945 then again from 1951-1955.
  • Tripartite Pact

    Shortly after the fall of France, Germany, Italy, and Japan signed the pact and became allies.
  • The Battle of Britain

    The British lost nearly 1,000 planes, the Germans more than 1,700.Germany bombed civilian as well as military targets, destroying houses, factories, and churches and conducted a month long campaign against London.
  • Lend-Lease Act

    Symbolically numbered 1776, after another heated debate between isolationist, and interventionist. The act authorized Roosevelt to "sell, transfer title to, exchange, lease, lend or other wise dispose of, to any such government any defense article."
  • Atlantic Charter

    Pivotal policy statement issued during WWII, which defined the Allied goals for the post WW.
  • Fall of 1941

    Hitler ordered German U-boats, or submarine, to attack American ships.
