Britain and France declared war on Germany and in return, Germany and Italy declared war on Britain and France.The Soviet Union remained out of WW2 in the beginning because of the Nazi-Soviet Non-aggression Pact. -

The battle was fought between Germany and Italy vs. Greece, the civilians on the island, and the rest of the Allies on the other. The battle concluded after approximately 10 days with an Axis victory. Hitler's conditions were that the Battle of Crete had to be carried out in May and that the battle can’t interfere with Operation Barbarossa. -
