Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
It was a Nazi - Soviet Pact which took place in Moscow. It was a non-agression pact, which benefited both Stalin and Hitler. Hitler wanted to avoid two-front war while Stalin wanted time. Also it had a secret clause which divided Eastern Europe, this is called the spheres of interest. -
Invasion of Poland
At 4:45pm Germany invaded the western part of Poland. The Soviet Union joined in on the 17th of September and the inveded the eastern part of Poland, the Baltic states and Bessarabia. France and England declared war on Germany. -
Operation Sea Lion
The Royal Airforce fought against the Lubwaffe, and this event became the greatest air battle in history. Germany had stronger and more planes then Britain, however, Britain had better radars and they also had decoding machines. In this battle, German planes bombed London by accident. -
Denmark
Germany invaded Denmark and later in June they also attacked Norway due to stratigical reasons. -
Operation Barbarossa
Germany attacked the Soviet Union due to lack of mineral resources, and because they were against communism. The Red Army was able to make a counter attack by the end of 1941. The Soviet succes was due to the harsh winter and also the Soviets used scorched earth policy, which meant that they burnt down villages making the German army unable to get food. -
Teleki comitting suicide
The Second Teleki Government governed Hungary between 1939-1941. Although, Teleki created the 2nd Anti-Jewish Law, he was against the war and he enabled several polish jews to excape through Hungary. However, the pressure from Hitler was huge, and Horthy joined to Hitler. Teleki new that his policy failed, therefore he comitted suicide. This way he could make Churchill understand that Hungary was forced to join the war. -
War between Hungary and the Soviet Union
On the 26th of June unknown planes bombed Kassa. The Hungarian government claimed that it was a Soviet attack. Probably they were right, however, it had to be a mistake, because the USSR probably wanted to bomb Eperjes which is near to Kassa. Bárdossy László announced that state of war existed between Hungary and the Soviet Union, which was illegal, because that was the Parliament's right. -
Operation Marguerite
Hitler invited Horthy and he informed him about the occupation of Hungary. This happened due to the fact that Hungary tried to reastore its relationship with England. Hitler knew about everything, Horthy could keep his post and Sztójay Döme became the Prime Minister, who served the Nazi interest. -
Operation Overlord
Allied forces landed on the French shore therfore Hitler had to fight on two fronts. -
The Day of Victory
The Allied Powers fought of Germany and the became the vinner of the WWII. Later in 1945 the known handshake took place at the conference of Potsdam between Stalin, Churchill and Truman.
