  • Hitler Becomes Chancellor

    Hitler Becomes Chancellor
    President Paul von Hindenburg names Adolf Hitler, leader or fÜhrer of the National Socialist German Workers Party (or Nazi Party), as chancellor of Germany. Hitler was very popular because of his ability to influence a crowd and how likeable he was. His plan was to do away with politics, and make Germany a unified state.
  • Neutrality Act

    Neutrality Act
    The Neutrality Act was a law passed by the U.S. Congress and signed by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It was designed to keep the United States out of a possible European war. It prohibited any sales of US arms to any European countries.
  • Stalin and Hitler sign Nonagression Pact

    Stalin and Hitler sign Nonagression Pact
    The two countries agreed not to attack each other, either independently or in conjunction with other powers. They were not to support any third party that might attack. This pact was supposed to last 10 years, which obviously it did not, because a short time later Germany violated this pact.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    Germany Invades Poland
    German forces bombard Poland on land and from the air. Adolf Hitler seeked to regain lost territory and ultimately rule Poland. Once German forces plowed their way throug, the infantry came and swept away the rest of the remaining resistance. Britain responds 3 days later with bombing raids over Germany.
  • Britian and France Declare War

    Britian and France Declare War
    In response to Hitler’s invasion of Poland, Britain and France, both allies of Poland declare war on Germany. They began bombing Germany ships on September 4th. The sinking of the Athenia, which was sunk by a German submarine, was a hit on innocent passengers, some of which were American. The US still remained neutral.
  • Germany invades the Soviet Union

    Germany invades the Soviet Union
    The Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union on June 22,1941, which was the largest German Military operation of World War II. This invasion was delayed by problems in the Balkans. An early winter caused problems for the Nazi army. THis was the first time the German armies were stopped.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    The Japanese were in need of natural resources, so they sought out after the Indo-china's resources. This alarmed the US and they wouldn't allow it. On December 7th, 1941 the Japanese forces launched two attacks one on Indo-china and another on Pearl Harbor. More than 2,500 people were killed in this catastrophic attack on US soil.
  • US Declares War

    US Declares War
    After the Germany declared war on the US and after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US declared war. On December 11, 1941 President Franklin Roosevelt. The US entering th war was a great reliefe to the other Allied powers, because they had feared th possiblilty of two disconnecgte wars.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
    .
    Over 160,000 Allied soldiers landed on Normandy beach. They faced barbed wire, land mines. and the heavily fortified Nazi army. By the end of the day the Allied forces had made a steady foothold. The cost of lives on D-Day was very high.
  • Hitler's Death

    Hitler's Death
    On April 30, 1945, Hitler, his wife and dogs, locked in a bunker 55 ft. under the city of Berlin, gave himself, his wife, and dogs, poison. After Hitler took the poison he shot himself. This was a clear sign that the war was almost over.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    Japan's emperor still wouldn't refuse to surrender. The US launched an Atomic bomb on the town of Hiroshima. This bomb left a nation in ruins and most of the people dead.
  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    Bombing of Nagasaki
    During the final stages of WWII, 3 days after the US bombed Hiroshima they sent another atomic bomb to the town of Nagasaki. Thousands of Japanese people died and many others died slowly from radiation.
