Pearl Harbor
The Japanese air force lead a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor to try and take over the Pacific ocean. Destroying at least 20 naval vessels, eight battleships, two hundred airplanes. Killing over two thousand, wounding hundreds more. This event lead to america joining World War Two. -
Battle of Midway
With technological advances, Americans were able to break code and predict/ counter the Japanese future attacks. A turning point in the war and the Pacific ocean battle, the allies had more control over the ocean six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. -
D-Day
Also known as Operation Overload, American, British, and Candian forces landed on the beaches of Normandy. The goal of this was to take back the German controlled land and liberate France. The invasion is one of the largest in history. -
Battle of the Bulge
A German attempt to split the allied forces, Americans where caught off guard by the attack. But, despite that they ended up defeating the British despite the heavy loss of soldiers. -
Liberation of the Concentration Camps
Americans, Canadian, British and French Soldiers went to liberate the camps. Many of the surviving Jews died within a few days of being freed because of the mal-nourishment. -
Battle Of Iwo Jima
The need for an American base in Japanese coast was great. The marines wiped out the Japanese despite the number difference and how elaborate there base was laid out. -
VE Day
Victory in Europe! Americans, British celebrated the defeat of the Nazi Party and Hitler. -
Postdam Declaration
The Declaration defined terms for the Japanese Surrender, which occurred after the second bomb was dropped. -
Dropping the Atomic Bombs
America feared a another Japanese attack that would lead to heavy casualties. President Truman had a man by the name of Enola Gay create the atomic bombs. The first of the two bombs was dropped on Hiroshima killing 80,000 people, when japan did not surrendered another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing 40,000 and leading to the Japanese surrender. -
VJ Day
Victory over Japan day! Japans formal surrender to the allied forces. Many people had been waiting for this moment since the attack on Pearl Harbor.
