German term meaning "lightning war". It was designed to cause disorganization of the enemy forces. German forces first tried it out in Poland and in 1940 had continued the tactic with invasions into France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. -

Evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk ends as German forces capture Beach port. The evacuation lasted for nine days. This had saved 338000 Allied troops from being captured by the Nazis. -
Battle of Britain
Most of the battle had taken place between July 10, 1940 and October 31, 1940. Primarily took place over the English Channel. The Germans having 1223 Fighter planes, 1482 Bomber planes, and 327 dive Bombers. And the English having 903 single-two-seat Fighters, 560 Bombers, and 500 Coastal-minded aircraft. -
Pearl Harbor Bombing
Japan conducted a surprise attack on the air base of Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. This attack brought the United States into World War 2. Immediately after the bombing, the United States declared war on Japan. -
Bataan Death March
After the US had surrendered the Bataan Peninsula to the Japanese, about 75000 Filipino and American troops were forced to make a 65-mile march to prison camps. They made the trek in intense heat and harsh treatment by the Japanese guards. Thousands had died in what would be called the Death March. -
Battle of Stalingrad
Stopped the German advance into the Soviet Union. Marked the turning point of the war being in favor of the Allies. Casualties of both military and civilian combined being nearly 2 million. -
D-Day
Shortly after midnight British and Americans Airborne divisions start landing. Shortly after 5, naval gunfire open on German defences along the Normandy coast. All to start the liberation of the concentration camps and to set people free. -
Battle of Iwo Jima
Three US marine divisions landed on the island. The island was defended by about 23000 army and navy troops. They fought with using caves, dugouts and tunnels. After about a month of fighting, despite the conditions, the US was able to wipe out the defending troops. -
Atomic Bombs on Japan
The United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Thousands died after the bomb had been dropped and more had died later on because of radioactive exposure. Days later the United States dropped a bomb on Nagasaki. About 120,000 people had died due to the explosions. -
Internment of Japanese-Americans
Japanese-Americans were no longer able to travel on plane or boat to another place in in the US unless they have already been given permission or is necessary that they have to do it. Some Japanese-American owned shops had been closed down and they had restrictions against them out of fear.
