Invasion Of Poland
Germany invades Poland without declaring war. The German air force bombed polish cities to terrorize the enemies. Towards the end of the invasion Poland government and military leaders fled the country. -
The U.S. Congress passes the Selective Service Act.
Men had to be five feet tall and weigh 105 pounds to serve. They also had to have good vision and most of their teeth. This congress gives the U.S president power to draft soldiers. The act required all men between the ages of 21 and 30, in the U.S to register for military service. Within a few months, about 10 million men across the country had registered because of the military draft. -
"Barbarossa" plan.
Germany invades the Soviet Union without declaring war, knowing that their are massive troops at the border. With this "Barbarossa" plan Hitler fights a two-front war. -
pearl harbor
The Pearl Harbor is a U.S naval base near Honolulu Hawaii. The attack by the Japanese occurred on Sunday December 7, 1941 at 7:55 AM. They managed to destroy about 20 American naval vessels, eight battle ships, and more than 300 airplanes. They killed more than 2,400 Americans and wounded about 1,000 people during the attack. The day after, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked the congress to declare war on Japan. -
Battle Of Midway.
This was the first defeat of the Japanese navy in 350 years. The Japanese wanted to smash what was left of the pacific. They also wanted to take Hawaii and hold its people hostage, so they can force the U.S to sue for peace. The Navy then waited for them. he Japanese would lose 3,500 men, four carriers, a cruiser and 332 aircraft. The Americans would lose 307 men, the carrier Yorktown, one destroyer and 150 aircraft. -
Battle of Berlin.
The Battle of Berlin was an Offensive Operation by the Soviet Union. This battle was known as the fall of Berlin. It was also one of the last major offensives of the European theatre of World War II. -
Monte Cassino is bombed.
This was a series of four assaults. The British junior officer made a mistake and it was intentionally to breakthrough Rome. The Monte Cassino was the world's most glorious monastery located in Italy. -
President Roosevelt dies.
President Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage in his home. He died at age 63. After his death, Harry S. Truman takes an oath and is sworn in as the 33rd President. -
Germany Surrenders.
Germany officially surrendered to the Allies, this brought an end to the European conflict in World War II. General Alfred Jodl signed the unconditional surrender of both east and west forces . -
The Soviet Union declares war on Japan.
The Soviet Union declared war on Japan and had more than 1 million Soviet soldiers ready for war. The next day the soviet Union dropped an atomic bomb and Japan surrendered a few days after.
