    The Holocaust
    The Holocaust spanned form 1933-1945. It was a time when the leader of Germany: Adolf Hitler killed over 11 million people, 6 milliion of which were Jews. He wanted to create a total Arian race of Germans. People were foced into concetration camps where they would be worked or starved to death if they were lucky. Those unable to work were immediately sent to gas chambers by the hundreds to be killed.

    The Start of WWII in Europe
    WWII started when Germany invaded Poland. Britian and France responded to this by decring war on Germany. WIhtin a month, Poland had been completely taken over by Germany, and the war was underway.

    Carl Vinson
    Carl Vinson congressman man who was a huge supporter of the USA having a strong navy. He was known as, "the father of the two ocean navy." He spent his career convincing the senate the importance of a stong military. He helped pass many laws that vastly grew theh navy which gave the United Sttes a big advantage in WWII.

  • Brunswick Shipyard

    Brunswick Shipyard
    The shipyard in Brunswick was one of the sixteen ports that was built when FDR created theEmergency Shipbuilding Program. This program was made to provide jobs and build shiips that would be used for the war. The ships built in Brunswick were mainly liberty ships that would provide war supplies for troops in Europe. This shipyard brought people to Georgia for they represented hard work and sacrifice.

    The Lend-Lease Program
    FDR instituted this program to provide military aid to any country whos defense was essenial to the security of the United States. This aid helped Britin get back at Germany with America being directly involved in the war.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Early in the morning on December 7th, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the US naval base in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. Tousands of Americans died causing FDR to declare war on Japan the very next day. Three days later, Germany also declared war on the US on behalf of Axis powers, and the United States entered the war on the side of the allied powers.

  • Formation of the UN

    Formation of the UN
    This is when FDR first used the term: United Nations for the 26 countries that meant in order to establish an agreement in which the countries pledged to keep fighting against the Axis Powers. Later, after the war, at the end of 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco to discuss the charter for the UN.

  • The Bell Aircraft.

    The Bell Aircraft.
    The Bell Aircraft was a manufacturing plant in Marietta, Ga. It was established after the bombing of Pealr Harbor, and it helped to make hundreds of fighter jets hat would be used in the war. This production plant turned an area in rural Georgia into a economic boom providing over 28,000 jobs through the course of WWII.

  • Savannah Shipyard

    Savannah Shipyard
    Savannah was another very successful port that was built under FDR's Emergency Shipbuilding Program. The Savannah port was also in charge of building Liberty Ships to provide supplies. This shipyard was only meant to produce around 36 ship but in three years, 88 ships were built in th outskirts of Savannah.

  • D-Day

    D-Day
    D-Day was the beginning to the end of WWII. After D-Day happened, the Allies becam in power of the Axis and they began to stop the war. The "D" in D-Day stands for the day of invasion when it was being planned. On this day, thousands of Allied troops landed and Normandy, France, and slowly but surely forced the Axis powers out of Europe.

    Richard Russell
    Richard Russell was a Georgia senator for 38 years from 1933-1971. During WWII, Russell and 5 other senators were sent to travel through Europe and report about the conditions of the American troops. During his travels, Russell began to find and develop strategic military bases around the world that the US would use to enable security and help with world stability after the war.

    Yalta Conference
    The Yalta Conference was a meeting of 3 main leaders at the end of WWII. These leader were: FDR of USA, Winston Churchill of Great Britian, and Joseph Stalin of Soviet Union. This meeting was originally kept secret, but eventually people heard about it. These leaders decided to demand an uncondtional surrender from Germany, and post war efforts.

  • Hitler's Death

    Hitler's Death
    Hitler committed suicide in an underground bunker by taking the posion, cyanide. He knew he would get captured by the allies and in order to prevent being tried for being a war criminal, he killed himself. However, even if ths had not happen, the ally powers would have captred hitler and possibly have executed him.

  • VE Day

    VE Day
    VE-Day stands for "Victor in Europe." This was the day when Britian and the US finally forced Germany to put doen their weapons and surrender. It wasn't known that the war was over until the ninth when Stalin came on the radio and said, "The age-long struggle of the Slav nations… has ended in victory. Your courage has defeated the Nazis. The war is over.” After this a long celebraion exploded through Europe.

  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    Bombing of Hiroshima
    On this day, the US B-29 jet dropped the world's first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima, Japan. 90% of the city's population died, 80,000 people of which were killed directly with tens of thousands more killed later form radiation. This bomb destroyed the entire city and more.

  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    Bombing of Nagasaki
    The bomb on Nagasaki was another atomic bomb just like Hiroshima. This atomic bomb released 22,000 tons of TNT completey obliterating 60-80,000 bodies directly. Like Hiroshima, the radiation killed thousands of oher nd destroyed the city. The effect of the two bombs drops caused Japan to unconditionally 6 days later on August 15.
