Under the leadership of Colonel James H. Doolittle the US began to bomb Japan, including its capital, Tokyo. This is important because a lot of pepole were hurt in these bombings and it intensified the war.

In an efforts to take back the islands thta Japan had taken over the US invaded their first island Guadalcanal. The two countries fought fo si months before the Japanese fianlly retreated. The american troops arrived for the fist time on the shore of Normandy, France.
