Carl Vinson
Carl Vinson, "the father of the two-ocean navy",served 25 consecutive terms in the US House of Represenatives. He is the longest person to serve in the US congress. His strong support for the navy gave him the name "the Admiral".

Richard Russell
Richard Russell served the US sente from 1933-1971. Dean Rusk called him the most powerful and influential man in Washington, D.C.. Russel wanted absoulute independence of thought and action during WWII and this is how he effected WWII.

WWII breaks out in Europe
Using the Blitzkrieg tactic, Germany defeated Poland (attacked in September 1939), Denmark (April 1940), Norway (April 1940), Belgium (May 1940), the Netherlands (May 1940), Luxembourg (May 1940), France (May 1940), Yugoslavia (April 1941), and Greece (April 1941). But, Germany could not defeat Great Britain. War spread all over Europe. This is how WWII started in Europe.

Brunswick Shipyard
The brunswick shipyard was where they'd make ships for WWII. The shipyard has 16,000 workers. The workers made 99 ships for the war.

Lend-Lease Act established
On 11th March 1941, Congress passed the Lend-Lease Act. The legislation gave President Franklin D. Roosevelt the powers to sell, transfer, exchange, lend equipment to any country to help it defend itself against the Axis powers. This is the Lend-Lease Act.

Pearl Harbor
On December 7, 1941 hundreds of Japanesse fighter planes attcked Pearl Harbor, a harbor in Hawwai. The Japanese destoryed 20 American vessels, including 8 battleships, and more than 300 airplanes. United nations are formed
On January first, 1942 representatives of 26 nations at war with the Axis powers met in Washington to sign the Declaration of the Untited States endorsing the Atlantic Charter. This took place in San Fracisco. The declaration was them pleding to use their full resources against the Axis.

Bell Aircraft
The Bell Aircraft was famous for being one of the major manufacturing centers for the B-29s. This would become the United States's most formidable bomber aircraft in the later portion of the war. This is what the Bell Air craft was and how it invloved WWII.

Savannah Shipyard
Savannah was chosen as the other site for the ship construction. They would make the ships here for the war. The shipyard workers ended up making 88 ships for the war from 1942-1945.

D-Day
On d-day more thsn 160,000 allied troops landed along a 50- mile stretch of heavily- fortifued French coastline, to fight the Nazi's. This attack costed a LOT of money. More than 9,000 sldiers were killed or wounded.

Yalta Confernce
The Yalta Conference was a meeting of British prime minister Winston Churchill, soviet premier Joseph Stalin, and President FDR early in Febuaray 1945 as World War II was winding down. The leaders agreed to get Germany to surdedner. They then sceduled the creation of the united nations after.

Holocuast

Hitler's death
Hilter, the leader of the Nazi's, killed himself with a gun on April 30, 1945. His wife also committed suicide. Some even say he died from posion, not a gunshot, but this website says gunshot.

Bomb dropped on hiroshima
On August 6th in 1945, at 8:16 AM, japanese time, an American B-29 bomber, the Enola Gay, drops the worlld's first atom bomb, over the city of Hiroshima. Approximately 80,000 people are killed as a direct result of the blast. Also, 35,000 people are injured.

Bomb dropped on nagaski
On August 9, 1945 three days after the bombing of Hiroshima, the United States dropped a second atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki. The bomb dropped at noon, Japanese time. Nagasaki was an important industrial and shipping ares with a population of 258,000.
