Th Germans had come through the Ardennes which had surprised the French forces and used an attack strategy called the "Sickle Stroke."

    Pearl Harbor which is a U.S. Naval base near Honolulu was engaged in a surprise attack by the Japanese forces. Just before 8 am that Sunday morning hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, where they were able to destroy or damage nearly 20 American Naval Vessels. Including 8 battle ships, ans over 300 airplanes. More than 2400 Americans died in the attack, including civilians, and another 1000 people were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin declared war.

    Four days after the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor the Americans had joined the war to aid it's Allied powers. The president at the time Franklin D. Roosevelt had prepared the Americans for a war that was inevitable. He persuaded members of congress to repeal the arms of the neutrality that the Americans were under. The U.S. began making hundreds of thousands of tanks, airplanes, and ships for the Allies which resulted in a big part of why the Allies had won the war.

    The battle of Midway was a naval battle between the U.S. forces, and the Japanese forces. Just six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Code breaking allowed to U.S. to determine the attack strategy of the Japanese, allowing the Americans to surprise them and take out three of the four carriers of Japan's. It was a total disaster for Japan because they lost 322 aircraft and 3500 men. They were forced to leave before even attempting to land on the island they sought to conquer.

    Allied forces were to invade Dieppe which was occupied by the Germans deep into continental Europe. This was a pivotal moment in the war. They were facing an entrenched enemy, Canadians made up the majority of the forces 5000 of the 6100 were Canadians. They were assisted with eight Allied destroyers and 74 Allied air squadrons, eight belonging to the Royal Canadian Air Force. A big price was paid taking Dieppe, many lost their lives, of the 4963 that went, only 2210 Canadians returned.

The battle when between Germans forces and those of the Axis Powers. Russian Forces made a defensive ring around the city trapping the German and Axis forces in the city. Slowly starving them because they were fighting in a place not accustomed to. The Russians captured more than 100000 Germans and took back Stalingrad.

The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning. Prior to D-Day Allied forces were trying to give false radio transmissions in an effort for deception to make the German think other places they would attack. More than 4000 Allied troops lost their lives, thousands more injured or missing.

Many people lost their homes because of the war.

    American Bomber named Enola Gay dropped a five ton bomb over the Japanese city Hiroshima. A blast equivalent to the power of 15000 tons of TNT reduced four square miles of the city to ruins and killed 80000 people as soon as it touched the ground. Tens of thousands of people died in the following weeks due to radiation poisoning of the bomb. A few days later Japan has announced it's surrender. There were five Japan cities on the U.S's hit list and Hiroshima was not even one of them.

    Three days later after bombing Hiroshima, the Americans dropped another one on Nagasaki. A specially adapted B-29 bomber called "Bock's Car dropped the second bomb nick named 'fat man". This bomb produced the power equivalent to 22000 tons of TNT. The estimated casualties of the blast is between 60000, to 80000. It is impossible to determine the actually amount because of the impact the bomb had on the people. The bombings were estimated to have led to the deaths of 150000-246000 people.

    The unconditional surrender of Germany was on May 7th, 1945. But Japan Kept fighting and it was not till after the atomic bomb had been dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima that Japan announced their unconditional surrender on September 2nd, 1945 that was when the war officially ended in Asia.
